Diamond Naturals is not responsible for the content of this article.

If you have followed my blog, you have seen I have been talking about grain free dog foods and the benefits of it. Now we will talk about safety of Diamond Naturals products.

Diamond Naturals prides itself on its safety practices. They are confident enough to feed their own pets their own products. Diamond Pet Foods has developed a comprehensive food safety system. In every aspect of the manufacturing process at Diamond Pet Foods is tested and monitored. For example in each of the company’s facilities, over 1,300 microbiological tests are conducted every week, including finished product tests, in-process tests and sanitation-verification tests.

No product manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods is released to the warehouses for the public without adhering to the strict standards of the company’s Test and Hold Program. The products are tested by conducted by a certified, independent laboratory. Hourly samples are collected and tested for every product produced. Every sample is kept for a time equal to the guaranteed shelf life of the product, typically 12 months. This insures that the products that make it to the shelves are safe.

Diamond foods are produced in a four manufacturing facilities in the U.S. The companies headquarters are located in Meta, Mo. with one plant located in South Carolina and two plants in California

On-site Product Testing includes the following:
1,075 Mycotoxin Tests per week
1,300+ Microbiological Tests per week
180 Oxidative Stability Tests on Fats & Oils per month
6,000+ Ingredient Nutritional Tests per month
45,000+ Finished Product Nutritional Tests per month
18+ hours of Employee Safety Training per employee per year
600+ Safety Assessments per year

They test and monitor every aspect of the manufacturing process: pre-production,production and post-production. They believe in purchasing high quality products to go into every one of their products.

By eliminating grains they eliminate the risk of mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are a toxic chemical that comes in a form of fungi that attaches itself to grain. Diamond Naturals continues to test for this even though grains are not used.

All topical palatants and probiotics must have a Certificate of Analysis and prove to be Salmonella is negative before submission to Diamond Pet Foods

Diamond Naturals uses reverse osmosis water to ensure that all water is free from any forms of bacteria.

They also equip every plant with HEPA®-filter and ozone air-treated handling units to ensure clean, treated air is utilized in each of the segregated zones.

  13. I was listening to a podcast, completely NOT dog related, and it was about the toxins on grains and that this is why some people have issues with them (makes sense that this would extend to dogs too). They even said that some people who have an intolerance to different things (coffee, cashews, mushrooms - were the examples given), because of the fungi that grows on it. Funny that I read your post today too. Mmmmm.
