Kitten Season Is Here

Office kitties ,  Dove and Pearl
My humane society is so full of kitties that we are overflowing and could use some adoptions. Over the last couple months , we have had cats just dumped on the property only for the staff to find them later. One cat gave us kittens after we rescued her from a local kill shelter , one cat came with kittens and one cat is about to have kittens. Being a no kill this is extremely hard on us and the cats we already had.
With more kittens and cats , we have to put them somewhere. This causes our other cats to stress out due to lack in space. When cats get stressed they have more of a chance of immune systems going down. Our cats can sometimes start losing hair, hiding instead of being social, many fights start to break out and they become unhappy. The Owensboro Humane Society has to move the cats to different rooms to relieve some of this stress. We have a kitty building, a kitty room the office and our tack room occupied.

Right now our office is full of kittens.
Office Kittens

Office kitty Oliver

We have kitties of all ages from 10 weeks - 10 yrs, all colors, males , females, and sizes.

We still have Gussie and Gabbie.

Molly and Helen are still available

I know our facility isn't the only one by kitten season. Many shelters across the US are having the same problem. Kitten season could be stopped by owners having their cats spayed or neutered. Male cats are just as important to have neutered as females are to get spayed.

The Owensboro Humane Society is located in Owensboro Ky. We are a Non Profit, No Kill that is ran solely on donations of the public. We do not receive money from the state , city, county or national HSUS.

If you are interested in any of the kitties you see here, you can contact us at 270-302-6813 or by email

5 Alternatives To Leaving Your Pet In The Car

It's official, summer is here and so are the high temperatures. To a dog, summer time is supposed to be taking long walks, playing outside and taking the mighty car rides. Those car rides can be great but if you are running errands and you are getting in and out of the car for any amount of time, please remember to use caution. A vehicle can heat up quickly and it can kill us.
I am a service dog and can be taken anywhere but that does not mean its safe. When the temps get in the high 80's, ma stays home. She does not want me in the car in those temps. If there are errands we need to do , we do them early in the morning or late in the evening. If she needs to run into the corner store for a item , she leaves the air conditioning running for me. This isn't safe if you are planning on shopping for a while. This is a good way to get your car, your dog or both stolen plus it waste gas. There are times when she will take my human sister with her and leave me at home. I don't like it but I know it's because she cares about me.
If you insist on taking your dog or your dog is like my fur siblings and me and strive to be a go go gang, there are things you can do to make sure the trip is fun and safe. These are infographics from Petfinder.com. They adopted my blog and while at Blogpaws I along with 9 other bloggers had lunch with Petfinder. We received a $200. gift card to help with our blogpaws expenses. I used mine to ship my swag home.

Please remind your friends and family who have pets about the risk of heat and dogs in cars. If you are on a social media platform (Facebook, Twitter etc) and you see someone sharing a photo of a reminder on pet safety, take a moment to share it.

Summer is supposed to be fun. These are 5 alternatives to leaving your dog in the car. They all look fun to me! Have a safe summer.

Dino Egg Dog Toy- Product Review

A while back I applied to be a product tester for Nip and Bones AKA @Babypatches on Twitter. I anxiously awaited to see if I would be chosen to be a tester. Poodles are excellent taste and toy testers. This poodle thinks she is at least.
I was so excited when a box arrived with my name on it from Nip and Bones. I couldn't wait to open it to see what it was. When I opened the box I seen a big blue egg shaped toy. I appreciated the size since I am a medium/large (44 pound) poodle who has a hard time finding the right toy to play with. I asked ma to measure it so I could give you a idea of the size. She said it was 9".

This toy makes a crinkle sound and it squeaks. Yes it SQUEAKS! I love squeaking things. It's easy to throw so its great to play fetch.

It's big enough that I can use it for tug a war yet small enough that my brother Scooby who is a standard chihuahua can play with it too. We kept playing Keep away from each other. It was fun and exciting.

This toy is sturdy.I chomped it, shook it and through it up in the air. I stomped it and ran around with it to give it a good hardy test. It survived! Even playing tug a war didn't tear it open like most toys made of this material often do. It has sturdy construction. We played for over a hour with it and now it has taken the place of my favorite toy.

When I really like something a lot I give it a nibble worthy approval. This is how ma knows when something is a hit with me or if its a dud. This toy is definitely Nibble worthy!

This toy retails for $11.00 and can purchased on Nip and Bones Web store. I really love this toy. I decided it makes a great pillow too. I even take it to bed with me.

I give this Dino Egg Dog toy a Poodale approved seal.
You can find Nip and Bones also on Facebook and Twitter

Make sure to go to the store and see what all is offered!

*I was sent this toy to test out as product tester for Nip and Bones for free. I was not paid to give this review nor was I asked to give it a good review. I was asked to give my honest review.

Are Your Pets Ready For the 4th?

They have already started. Do you hear them??
What am I barking about you ask?
Those boom booms, those terrifying BOOMS!
Those bright lights in the sky!

Fireworks are scary for any animal, I don't like them and neither do my fur siblings but we are not terrified of them like some pets. When some pets hear them the 1st thing they want to do is get far far away from the sounds. They don't understand what they are.

Sure humans love to watch them but even human children can be terrified of them so why wouldn't your pet be too? The sounds have already started so its time to prepare your pets for the 4th of July and the many, many days afterwards. It seems like those sounds go on the whole month of July and sometimes even in to August!

”Keep
Keep Your Pet Safe on the Fourth of July

I am a spokes dog for a no kill shelter in Owensboro, Ky and I have seen it first hand of all the animals that people bring in saying they found this pet, heard the phone ringing off the hook from people asking if their pet has been turned in or spotted, read and shared the post of LOST PET on social media.
Our humane society has already replaced the batteries in our universal microchip scanner and we are ready to scan those animals but first we need help from YOU! You the pawent, yes YOU. Here are some simple ways you can help your fur babies, pets, animals...whatever you call them but let's make the 4th a fun time and not a sad one.

  1. Microchip your pet- this can be done at your veterinarian or call your local shelter and see if they can do it for you.
  2. Take lots of photos- If by chance your pet does run out of fear, you have current photos to share. A photo is more likely to get shared than a description.
  3. Make a ID tag- These can be made at your local pet store for about $6.00 but remember, COLLARS COME OFF- See #1
  4. Make sure your outdoor pets are secure- Have pets that don't want to be in the house? Yes, I know there are some. Prepare now. Make sure they can't get out of their kennels, the fence is secured (pets will jump it if scared enough)
  5. If pet are outdoors- Is there a alternate spot they could spend for one night? A well ventilated area such as a garage, basement, the bathroom maybe?
  6. Prepare your pet now-Don't wait till July 4th to prepare. Start it now, this way if you forget something  you can correct it before its to late.
Please prepare now. We know the heartbreak of a lost pet. We now think my brudder Zen was stolen instead of running off. We believe someone was on the property when he went to potty , this is why there has been no sightings or leads.
You don't want to go through the heartbreak, the worry, they "what if's".
Please prepare your pets now because the worse CAN happen. I hate to think about it but some pets pull out of their collars and run, some have been hit by cars.

Don't let it happen to your pet.

My blog and nine others were "Adopted By Petfinder (dot) com" and we are working together to get the word out on how to make this a enjoyable summer and keeping your pets safe.

My humane society and our local shelters want to make sure your pets stay safe and at home.
If you have lost a pet , please keep in contact with your local shelters. Someone may take the pet to the shelter in hopes to find its owner.

*I was awarded a $200 gift card and a lunch with the others who won as part of being Adopted by Petfinder.com.

Taking Break From Blogging

Please bare with me. I have not blogged for a while but it is because my ma isn't feeling well. She has had a flair up with her Multiple Sclerosis and though she is feeling better, she has no energy and if she tries to do too much , the pain returns.

Right now my job is not to blog but to take care of my ma. Thank you for being patient and I hope I will be blogging again in a few more days.

Thank you for understanding.

BlogPaws Recap

Trying to do a recap on Blogpaws and what I learned is really hard. I mean , it was 3 fast paced days that was so choked with information that my head was going wow, wow , WOW the whole time. We went a day early so we could mingle and ma could rest but that sure didn't happen. She strived to be the energizer Bunny!

**Please note that some of these photos are not on the right day. Blogger is not working with me tonight. So I have to get the photos on here the best I can**

I covered the journey to Blogpaws and some of the things we did as seen here  Journey to BlogPaws  but once we got to the host hotel, it was GO! Once we checked it , we found our room , dropped our stuff and went to the conference center to look around at all the sponsors and companies that were there.

Sissy Sarah quickly found the dress up table and dressed up like a wanna be cat. This was the last time we seen her until bed time. She was supposed to be our photographer but she was off learning on her own.

We walked around and talked with the sponsors and met up with other bloggers who we follow.

Cinnamon is cute as a button

Christie from LifewithBeagle

After mingling for a while , we went outside so I could potty. Ma quickly found friends outside so she caught up with them and I people watched.

Where are my followers?
I am a Twitter Critter

I wish Owensboro had a dog park!
I even visited the dog park! It was to potty but I did run around with some of my other blogger friends. After a fun filled day, it was finally time to go night night. These Sheraton beds are sure comfy.
One pooped poodle
On Friday we attended a sessions on SEO and I sure did learn alot. It helped that his voice had a soothing accent.

Oscar kept staring at me. I think he wanted to play

learning about SEO

In between sessions I met up with some really cool friends. They were poodles like me! I was the only girl but they were both gentleman to me.

These 3 poodles are fabulous

Uh, Chilly let go of my leash , please

Then while we were in a session, +Cokie Cat and I cuddled on the floor together. We caught up with everything that was going on around Twitter. After that I met up with stick Katie and Waffles too from Glogirly.com. Neither of them tried to swat me. I have some pawtastic kitty friends.

@cokiethecat and I taking a break

Its my pals from @Enlightenedferrets
Manny, Marcus and Marilyn
I snuck up and photo bombed the flat pet kitties!

I also hung out with my ferret friends and their mom Amy Jo. They were super nice. All of a sudden I seen one of my favorite kitty lady bloggers. I was hoping she would come to say hi and she did! It Deb Barnes from zee and zoey
I love this kitty lady. Its Deb from ZeeandZoey

Stopped at the Natural Balance table
These chunky flat pets at the Natural Balance display sure make a girl look slim.
We decided to take a break and I needed to potty. We went outside and met up with Pepperpom and Rocco. Let me tell you, ma got all googly eyed over Rocco. He is just a baby and I seen that "I want a PUPPY!"look in her eyes. I had to remind her that dad says no more puppies. For some reason I don't think he has any say in the matter but maybe that will be a later blog post.

PepperPom

When we finally caught up with sissy Sarah, she was at the Jones Natural Chew table. My ears caught the sound of "cheep, cheep, cheep". I have heard that sound before on a farm but I thought why are they here? Sissy Sarah turned around with this huge smile on her face and a baby chickyum in her hands. I even got a photo of a chickyum on my back but I have no idea where that photo went. It must have flew the coop.

Sissy finally got to hold a chickyum
NOTE her birds nest hairdo.
Camera messed up but gave me this cool photo
Blurry photo of all the sponsors
Then ma's camera messed up. Every photo she took turned out blurry and as you can see above it made a cool photo of me resting in the chair. She had to take the rest of the photos with her phone.

We then ran into Rex the Bunny. He is a huge rabbit! Ma squealed with delight.

I was face to face with Rex.
Hey , personal space please!

Excuse me but can't you see I am laying here?
You can have your own Super Buddy. Visit a Shelter near you!

We went upstairs and had lunch with Sandy Robins at the round table discussions. We discussed how to properly do a product review. We learned so much from her. We learned how to do a review and tactfully say we didn't enjoy the product to doing a rave review. I hope to be able to use the skills I learned from her in my product reviews. Maybe it was because this was almost like a one on one with a speaker but I really enjoyed the lunch and the company at the table. I sat by Christie from Life with Beagle. I love her.

Sissy, ma and I had a chance to speak at Blogpaws. We were invited to a meet the shelters session. We had a chance to tell the bloggers about our shelter and what we do. This was a great honor to be able to do this. I wore my Owensboro Humane Society saddle from Doodie pack. I even had a few people give me some dollars for my fur friends. I couldn't wait to take it back to our shelter.

After we told about our Humane Society, some gave me donations.

You have to catch your zzz's when you can
My blog was also one of 10 blogs who have been "adopted by petfinder" !  Yes
Petfinder adopted my blog and 9 others and we will blog about keeping pets safe this summer. You can read more about it and see the other blogs who were adopted too. 10 Blogs adopted by Petfinder.com. We went to a Indian restaurant to eat lunch and talk about what was planned for the summer.

I slept like a Rock at night
The last day of the conference was the Nose to Nose awards ceremony and the closing remarks and donations. While we waited for the red carpet yappy hour to start we gathered all our swag and shipped it home, mingled with friends and discussed what we had learned in each session.

My twitter friends and I were on TV with Ron the Weatherman and Schmitty the weather dog. We were so excited to be there.

Who I spend my Monday nights with on Twitter at #petchat

I stopped by the OraStrip table and I got tested for Periodontal disease. No I don't have it but you can have your dog tested for it to. Ask your vet if they have the test.

I got tested @Orastrip

When the time was near we ran upstairs and we got dressed up in our fancy clothes. By this time, I was showing ma that my back was really starting to hurt. I was spending more time laying down then I was walking around. She took me up to the room, gave me something to eat and let me rest. She rested too. I think she gave me something because my back was starting to feel much better.

We went to the red carpet event and walked the red carpet. The pupparatizzi was everywhere. The flashes from the cameras were coming from all directions. I felt like a movie star!

We got to our table and we sat down and waited for the pawty to begin. We listened to David Frei give out the awards and ma shook the Glorgirly cat bell every time a kitty won. My photo of the bell was to blurry to post. Ma did get to meet Mr. Frei for a bit thanks to her friend Elly.

Oh My Dog, its David Frei !

Of course, ma's phone died and we couldn't take any photos of anyone dressed up but we did have someone who was nice enough to send us a photo of Ma and Angel (pepperpom's mom) and Emmy sitting together.

After the awards and ceremony was over , we had a blogpawty on Twitter. We had to tweet about our shelter that we wanted Pets Add life to donate money to. The tweets were a tweeting. At the end, they announced the winners. Sissy Sarah was one of the WINNERS! She won $500 for our humane society!!! She had the biggest smile on her face. We were all cheering and raising the woof in celebration.

Going to miss my Flat Delia our room mates girl

It was time to say goodbye to everyone. This is the part that I don't like. All my blogging friends live all over the United States , Canada, and other parts of the world and things like Blogpaws brings us together. We meet new friends and visit with ones we already know. Most of us bark with each other online often and we read each others post. Its still sad to say goodbye. But walking away with the memories in your heart and the feeling of being loved is a pawtastic feeling.

Kona, me and Pepper are 3 working girls.
We are all Service dogs

It was time to get to the airport so we had to say our goodbyes. We made our way to our plane and it was a good flight. We flew United. Some of our swag didn't get past security like the Natural Balance wet food and some cleaner. I knew I should have ate that!

I fit comfortably under the seats

Once we made to our home airport , dad picked us up. The trip was over.
I already missed everyone. I am looking forward to watching the recorded videos of the sessions I missed. I learned a lot and I hope to take my blog to a whole new level. One that will bring awareness to shelter pets , teaching pawents how to be a better pawent,  being a better service dog and living life to its fullest.
