Dogs In Hot Cars

Every year we hear the same thing over and over...Dog Dies in Hot Car. What is it going to take for humans to think about what they are doing when they leave their dogs in a car in the summertime? Not just pet parents have done this but there has also been K-9 handlers who left their dogs in cars only to die. This just happened last month-Article about it HERE

Here is a excellent info graphic that tells what will happen to the inside temperature of the car when it is parked. Please think before you take your dog shopping and think that cracking the window will help.

Please remind others who you see what they could be doing to their pets by leaving them in cars on hot days. If you see a animal or child left in a car please notify the store or business to allow them to page the person. Write down license plate number, color of car, and a description of the animal. If the business refuses to page the owner then call the police. Some cities have been giving a citation to owners who do this and one police chief tells it as it is. I wish all police chief's were like Chief David Oliver

Stay safe this summer.
*my blog was adopted by Petfinders and together we are getting the word out about summer safety and how to have a safe , fun summer. I received a $200.00 gift card to help with the cost of Blogpaws , a luncheon with other bloggers whom they adopted and a gift basket.

#WW- Swimming Spaniel

Not bad for a blind spaniel, huh? Jenny Sue loves to swim.
Remember a blind dog can do almost everything a dog with sight can.

Being Blind Doesn't Stop a Dog

I talk about my sissy spaniel a lot and how she went blind but it doesn't stop her from playing fetch, swimming and living life to the fullest. Well, sissy Sarah (human sister) took this video yesterday of Jenny playing fetch. Wish dad wasn't walking around in it but he is one of those that whenever you are videotaping something, he either gets in the way of the video or he turns the TV up louder. We try to video when he isn't around :) but when sissy is in the mood to play, we go with it.

Blind dogs can still do everything a dog with sight does. I do suggest you not move your furniture around a lot and when you do you give your dog time to adjust before getting a good game of fetch going. Don't pity a blind dog. They use their ears and nose as the first senses just as a dog that has full eye sight. Have you ever seen a dog find the perfect place to potty use its sight to find such spot? Probably not , because they smell their way around the yard to find the spot.
Jenny Sue goes with us when we run in the open field. She trots around the field but ma either uses a clicker or jingles her car keys so Jenny Sue can hear where the rest of the crew is. She still loves to go for car rides but she has to wear a seat belt because she likes to ride in ma's lap while she is driving. This is a huge no no in our car but Jenny doesn't mind to wear her seat belt.
Later I will take video of Jenny Sue swimming. We all just had a flea treatment so we have to wait to swim. I will show you how great blind dogs are!

#FF- Fido Friends Make Things Better

While recovering from surgery, I had to wear a toilet seat (neck pillow) to stop me from pulling out my stitches. I did NOT like wearing this thing and felt I looked ugly in it.

When I posted a photo of myself wearing it on Facebook, I had a lot of friends tell me it was for the best, send me well wishes and then this showed up on my Facebook wall.....

Jenny Lewis and Pixel Blue eyes wrote this...
CarmaPixel Blue Eyes and I come in 'neck pillow' solidarity with you. Didn't want you to feel alone in your struggle, BOL!! See? It's not so bad when other people are wearing them too.

That made me feel soooo much better! It's friends like this that makes the world a better place. Please visit Pixel Blue Eyes blog. Its fun, its informative and Pixel is so cute, its hard not fall in love with her.

Thank you Jenny and Pixel for being a part of my healing process, not only in body but in mind.

What's That Smell???

On July 8th I had 45 Seborrhea cyst removed plus 3 suspicious cyst. I have recovered and today I got my stitches out. I feel much better but I have 4 places that will take longer to heal. I have to have my front legs wrapped for another 2 weeks. The stitches came out (really I pulled them out) and I have a spot on both back legs that are unable to be wrapped due to wear they are located. I have to wear band aids on the area when I go out to reduce risk of infection. One spot was from wear while at a pet store a cat ran up behind me and clawed me and broke the stitches and one is on the knee.

Vet techs checking out a poodle who had surgery

While I was getting my stitches out today, the vet came in and examined me and told ma that he had told her a little fib last time he spoke to her. Reason he said he fibbed is because he knew the news that I blew the record of Seborrhea cyst removal , record was 28, out of the water and he was concerned that it would be a little much for ma to take. Today he told her that the 3 suspicious spots were small tumors. Two tumors were benign but the one on my back had precancerous cells in it. This tumor was on my hip and was causing my back to hurt. I had stopped running for long periods like I loved to do and jumping up in the bed. Dad insisted it was because I was 7 yrs old and wasn't a spry puppy anymore but ma didn't agree.

The Dr. says that we caught it in time but there are times that the tumors never go full blown cancer and can stay at what is known as a Grade 1 stage. Some breeds are more prone to it and they really don't know what causes it. It could be exposure to viruses, toxins, or a gene that runs in the family or unknown reasons. Dogs are over the age of 5 yrs old are more likely to get cancer.

Ma had mentioned to the Dr. on my last checkup and when I went for my health exam to fly to Blogpaws  that I had a odd smell to me and it just wasn't right. The Dr. sniffed me and said I didn't smell odd but ma said that she could smell something different with me. That is when they first talked about having these cyst removed. The doctor told her they were cosmetic but since there was a few bothering me, he would take them off whenever she wanted to schedule surgery. Two weeks before I had the surgery, ma and I was cuddling and she started sniffing me. Its not uncommon for ma to give me the sniff test. She sniffs my ears, my breathe, and my body. That woman can smell a ear infection coming on before I get the symptoms! But that was the 1st time I heard her tell dad it was time to get these cyst off because something wasn't right.

The Dr. asked her today if my odd smell was still there and she said no but I could use a freshening AKA bath. BOL! All I know is that I am glad that my ma has a sniffer of a blood hound. As for that bath, it has to wait a couple more weeks because I can't get my bandages wet.

I need to do more research before I can talk about canine cancer but as soon as I do find out more I will let you know. All I know is if you suspect a bump or a smell that isn't right , you really need to talk to your vet.
My vet did give me a paper telling the signs of cancer in pets but it also states that all these things can be other things also and not just cancer.

The words in the red are those symptoms I had.

The American Veterinary Medical Association has developed the following list common signs of cancer in small animals.
  1. Abnormal swellings that persist or continue to grow
  2. Sores that do not heal
  3. Weight loss
  4. Loss of appetite
  5. Bleeding or discharge from any body opening
  6. Offensive odor  (according to ma)
  7. Difficulty eating or swallowing
  8. Hesitation to exercise or loss of stamina
  9. Persistent lameness or stiffness
  10. Difficulty breathing, urinating, or defecating

Now I am enjoying a 20 minute run, playing more, jumping in the beds and on the couch and acting like a puppy. My appetite has improved and I am feeling great. I want to thank each and every one of you who prayed for me, gave me words of support and sent your love during my surgery and recovery. My ma appreciates it more than words can say. You gave her strength and sent me healing powers through all this. Thank you for all that you do for me.
I love you all.

WW-Sissy Spaniel and Her Baby

Sissy Spaniel has a baby. Not really her baby but she treats him like he is. This is our guinea pig , Cinnamon. He was surrendered to the Owensboro Humane Society and then he came to live with us.

Gizmo A Miniature Poodle Needs a Home- Tails of the Week

Welcome to Tuesday's Tails. We are a group of bloggers who want to bring awareness  of a animal each week who is need of a home of their own. These bloggers live everywhere in the world so if you are reading this and don't live close to me please visit the links at the bottom of the page. You never know who is needing a home and they could be close to you.

My featured friend this week is GIZMO, a miniature poodle. Gizmo was brought to us because at 9 yrs old he became possessive over a new baby. He didn't want anyone to touch the baby. This boy thought he was doing the job he was supposed to and it got him kicked out of the house.
Gizmo does have a slight heart murmur that has stopped him from being neutered. He is housebroken and up to date on all vaccines. Gizmo prefers a home without children and would need to be microchipped.
Do you have what it takes to qualify to adopt? Call the Owensboro Humane Society at (270)302-6813 or Email Us Gizmo is hoping you have already fallen in love with him and hopes to meet you soon.

The Owensboro Humane Society is a non profit , No Kill shelter located in Owensboro Ky. We are open 7 days a week from 11-4 every day of the year including holidays. Come and see all my fur friends, you never know who will capture your heart!

Rescue Me Deep Conditioner-Product Review

I received a email from Viva La Spa dog products saying "Viva La Dog Spa would like to make your coat more manageable and fabulous with Rescue Me! Deep Conditioner.  This ultra rich moisturizing conditioner is meant for Poodles, Cotton de Tulears, Maltese, Shih Tzus, LHasa Apsos, Bichons and Bedlingtons – or any dog with very dry or matted coats". I assumed they have seen my photos on my blog and seen that I lacked luster and shine. I have been in the market for a new conditioner, this could be a good thing. I visited their website to find more information about the product and thought this sounded right up my alley. I returned the email stating I would love to give it a try.
Rescue Me conditioner from Viva La Dog Spa

The box arrived in no time and I just had a bath the day before , I had to wait to try out the conditioner. A couple weeks later I just happened to be out running in my favorite field and did not see that muddy spot. I tried to avoid it but the force was too strong and it sucked me up in it. (It's MY story and I am sticking to it)

The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smells wonderful! The tube is also very pretty with the pink, black and white colors and it looks like it is from a high end salon. That is 1 paw up from me.

The second thing I liked was it felt so creamy and went on easily without using half the tube like most conditioners I have used. Ma says "a little dab'll do ya."

The third thing I liked and appreciated was the fact that it came off easily. We let it set on me for about 5 minutes before rinsing. It washed off without a ton of water! Most conditioners I have used take forever to get out but not this one. Ma said she could already feel the difference in my hair and I was still wet.

No I do not have anything in my eye. Ma winked so I winked back.

I appreciated that after I was towel dried I was tanglefree. Ma ran my comb through my hair with no problem. This deserved all paws up but I had to wait till I was dry to see the results. Would it be heavy and weigh my hair down? Would I itch like I had fleas? Lots of questions but soon I got my answers.

I am happy to say that not only did I seem to dry a little faster , I had soft bouncy hair. This conditioner didn't make me itch , it actually relieved the itch from dry skin and it didn't weigh my hair down. I am fluffy and my hair feels and smells great.

Carma feeling great with Viva La Paw

We went to a pet store after my bath and the employee that knows me asked me if I had been to the spa because I was so fluffy. She even commented on how nice I smelled. I wanted her to pet me and when she did she said that she had never felt my hair so soft. I considered this a 2nd opinion.

I will give Rescue Me conditioner a 4 paws up rating along with a Poodale Approved stamp. I have found a product that I truly love!

I want to try the rest of their line of grooming products because not only was I happy with this conditioner ,I love the fact that their plant is ran 100% solar power! Here is a few things I absolutely love.
  • We buy our bottles from a local source within 50 miles of our facility. Less footprint.
  • Our website is on the only non-military SOLAR POWERED WEB HOST in the U.S.
  • Our bottles, labels, bands and pumps are RECYCLABLE anywhere on the planet.
  • We also PRE-CYCLE if possible!
They encourage you to wash the bottles out after the product is gone and reuse it. They not only care about how good you look and feel , they care about our earth! Their products are also cruelty free.
The Rescue Me! Conditioner comes in a 4 oz bottle and retails for $10.49. You can purchase it here- Buy Now You don't have to be a poodle to use it. Remember a little dab will go a long way so this conditioner will last a long time depending on how often you get a bath.

There you have it a 4 paw approved product with a "Poodale Approved" stamp. Not many products get this approval and to top it off , my ma (human) loves the smell, the fact that its easy to use too.

*I was not paid for this review, I was given a free tube of conditioner to try out. They asked for me to post a review of the product. They did not in any way ask me to give this product a good review.
*All reviews are given in my honest opinion and I will not give a good review to something that does not meet my requirements.
*Some parts of this review about the company itself has been taken from their website. You can find it in it's entirety Here
