Tuesdays Tails- Lots of Kitties

At the Owensboro Humane Society, we have many kitties who needs homes. We have all shapes, colors, sizes and personalities. Some came as tiny kittens, some older and some seniors. All ages!
I have talked about Blaze and Annabelle before. They are the ones who came as tiny kittens and now are almost 5 yrs old. They have been waiting a long time for a home. Why they haven't got it yet is puzzling to me. Blaze loves to greet you when you visit, Annabelle is one who likes to lay back and watch everything going on. We have showed photos, talked about them, taken them on a local tv show and they're still there.
Ma went a few weeks ago to spend some time with the kitties and Blaze was being the diva, she is. She starts with the "Look at me, I am beautiful" prance and then its " excuse me, but don't you see me?" all while ma is ignoring her. Ma is petting on other kitties and purposely ignoring Blaze. Then Blaze starts rubbing on ma to get her attention. When ma says hello Blaze , Blaze sways away. Being the majestic kitty that she is. As the game went on, ma pulled out her camera.
Blaze seen it and wanted to be the star. I am sharing the video of her and other kitties like Helen who are available.

Another thing we like to do is to test our cats with dogs. At first, the cats aren't so sure what is happening but after a few short exposures , they understand that dogs aren't going to hurt them. We actually become friends.
After a while, they don't mind a canine fur friend hanging out with them.

We try to get them used to all size dogs. In the photo above, is Precious and me hanging together in the cat room. Precious is also adoptable. She loves all animals and would love to have someone to walk around with. She follows the staff everywhere, even leash free on the property. She is very well behaved and gentle.

If you would like more information on Precious or any of the kitties you seen in the video please EMAIL us
We would love to speak to you about that animal.

    1. This is why ma chose to volunteer. She gets to visit the animals frequently and if she wants to bring one home for a couple days , she can. We love volunteering and so many shelters need extra help. Maybe one day you can find one to volunteer at also. Have a great day and thank you for stopping by.

    1. I agree it is but its the average time of pets in a no kill shelter. There are a lot of people who post, share, talk about pets in kill shelters to save lives but once that pet gets into a No Kill , people stop begging for their lives. Its sad to say but because people think NO Kill means safe, it doesn't mean the animal will ever get a home. This is why I ask people to please share those in No Kill shelters. Their lives are just as valuable as those in kill shelters.
Thank you for stopping by and have a pawtastic day!

  4. 5 years, that is a long time not to be in a furever home, sharing and I hope they all find a home soon. So nice of you and your friend to go hang out with the kitty's to get them used to dogs.

    1. Up to 5 yrs is common for pet who are in No Kill shelters. I do not think people realize that. Many pets in no kills are there their whole lives. Its like once they get into a No kill ,they are forgotten.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a pawtastic day!

  5. Is Blaze the tabby? She NEEDS to be recognized and gotten a home. We love the cream-color guy on the cat tree. It’s nice that they’re in a No Kill shelter but they should be in a Forever Home.

  7. How is it that kittens and puppies grow up in shelters? My understanding is they are the first to be adopted.

  10. Sweet! My dog Pierson would not let me have a kitty. He is too prey-driven.

  11. Oooh...Mr. K would never let us take in a kitty, sadly. However, my sister has rescued six cats and a dog! Maybe she's taking in more kitties because she knows how sad we are that we can't have them? Hope these lovely animals find forever homes soon! Much love, The Scottie Mom.
