WW-Heron Is Back

We are at the cabin at the lake this week. When we were outside visiting with all the animals we spotted the heron was back and he was walking around the lake.

Ma has a new camera with a super zoom.
She decided to see if she could get a good shot of the heron
without moving from the spot she was sitting.
Here is the outcome

Pretty Pawtastic Poodle Cookies

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday, Chef Carma here.
For today's post, I wanted to do something poodley. I have shared how we make my favorite treats like chickyum jerky, chickyum livers and all things chickyum. I started thinking, maybe my fans don't like chickyum. *Gasps* Who couldn't like chickyum??mmm chickyum.
Anyways, I was thinking about what I would like to make for this weeks blog post and I came up with nothing. Nada. Nope. None. Zilch. I have chickyum on my mind now and that is all I can think about. BUT, I got a email that said "Make Snickerdoodle Poodle Cookies". Hmm, had to investigate. I went to the web page and seen the prettiest pawtastic poodle cookies, they made me squeal like a Justin Beaver, oops I meant Bieber middle school fan. I decided I wanted to make them , well with the help of Ma since I am not allowed to use the oven or touch the food but whatever.
I started reading the ingredients and all the steps to make these pretty pawtastic poodle cookies but it looked to complicated for a poodle to do. Actually it looked to complicated for my Ma to do too. We decided to scrap that idea. Since I was coming to the cabin by the lake, we had to get some groceries for the cabin. We went to the store( I can go to the store because I am a service dog ) and when ma got her milk I spotted something and brought it to her attention. I seen they make cookies already made! All you have to do is put them on a baking sheet and wha laa! You got cookies! Brilliant I tell you , just brilliant!! So I turned ma's attention toward the cookies. Took me forever to get that woman to understand what I was trying to show her.
She finally seen what I was looking at and started pointing to each type of cookie. After a bazillion cookies , she finally pointed to the one I wanted and I wagged my tail. FINALLY , I was going to make pretty pawtastic poodle cookies! We checked out and home we went. I couldn't wait to make those cookies! We ate dinner, Ma cleaned up the kitchen and then planted her butt in the chair. I had to bug her to death to get back in that kitchen. She finally gave in and to the kitchen we went. She took the laptop with her so we could see how to lay the cookies out. We carefully read the instructions on the roll of cookies and got everything we needed out. I chose Peanut Butter cookie dough because it was the right color. Didn't get the stuff that had the chips in it cause I didn't want my poodle cookies looking like they had some disease or something. Smooth cookies for smooth poodles.
Only thing was these cookies would be for Humans only.
But what human wouldn't want a pretty pawtastic poodle cookie??

My cookies would look like this when they got finished shaping them. .
Photo from Paige Russell instructions
Pretty pawtastic poodle cookies, huh??
 *Squees and shivers with excitement*

We tried to arrange the cookies like it showed on the instructions but I wanted to do mine just a little bit different so I didn't look like a copycat. I am a poodle not a cat!

We started with the cookie pack
Pilsbury cookies
Remember these are for humans only
then we lined our baking sheets in aluminumumum foil. You don't have to do that step but ma doesn't like having to wash the pans so she puts the aluminumumum foil on for quick clean up.

The next step is to form the cookies. It was a little sticky and it took awhile to arrange those cookies.
I had to keep correcting Ma on how to do a poodle tail. After we made 3 poodles, ma said this task was too hard so we just made a paw print instead. The rest of the cookies were put on another tray but they were just circles and circles are boring.

cookie shaped like poodles

We baked them for 14 minutes at 350 degrees until they were golden brown. We took them out of the oven and allowed them to cool.

Now I guess you want to see how my cookies turned out?

Happy Memorial Day 2014

Today is Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving. We have a monument here in Owensboro that represents the wars and has the names of those who lost their lives fighting for our country.
I visited the monument yesterday.

The wall is huge.

Each war is represented

The names of those who died are on each war monument

There was only 1 flag flying so I brought my own.

Have a safe Memorial Day.
No drinking and driving!
Be safe around the barbecue
and
say a prayer for the men and women who
are fighting for us today so their names
aren't added to this list.

Happy Memorial Day!
Love,

Good Bye Little Buddy

If you are friends with me on Facebook, you know that when Ma and I pet sit we refer to it as "cabin by the lake". There I have lots of friends but there is one who I called my little buddy. Jelly Bean was a deaf beagle who even though she was a elderly girl, she had spunk.
Whenever ma and I came over ,she would do what ma called the Jelly Bean dance. She would dance all around because she was happy to see us. No matter where ma was in the house, there was Jelly Bean. Always watching, always ready to get a good head scratching. Jelly Bean and I would hang out all day together watching ma.Charming her out of treats.  When it was treat time I would always make sure Jelly Bean got the treat first. If she ate her treat too fast then I would drop my treat so she could have more. Once ma even caught me taking my foot and pushing the treat towards Jelly Bean.
Last night we went to the drive in and ma got a text saying Jelly Bean had passed away. Her mom was too distraught to talk about it but wanted ma to know. Ma busted out in tears when she read that text. We don't know what happened but imagine it was because of her age. She was around 18-19 yrs old. Yes, she was that old.
We will be at the cabin by the lake next week and it isn't going to be the same not seeing Jelly Bean meeting us at the door and doing the Jelly Bean dance of happiness.
I will miss her terribly. I know her siblings miss her too.
Rest in Peace , Jelly Bean.
You sure was a great little buddy
and you brought so many smiles to our faces.

I Loved You Best

So this is where we part, My Friend,
And you'll run on, around the bend.
Gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on; I'll find the strength,
Life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
Share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
But they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
Will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
The fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
Take with you this...I loved you best.

-Jim Willis

Losing a pet is devastating. If you have experienced this you know this to be true. Here are some sites that can help you cope with the grief. Remember its okay to cry. Its okay to grief. They took a piece of your heart with them.

I couldn't figure out how I won it since I thought I won a 6 pk of canned dog food instead but I just found out that I DIDN'T WIN it at all.

WW-LawnMower

The lawnmower went KA-plunk. Ma said enough was enough and they were spending more time to fixing it then they were mowing. The riding lawnmower is sick too. What is a grass obsessed woman supposed to do when the front yard is 3 times higher than she prefers?

Off to the store she went.
She got this

Mothers Day Mishaps

I hope everypawdy had a great Mothers Day yesterday. Ma got flowers for mother's day. Thank you to sissy Sarah for helping us fur kids out and putting our names on the card too.
carmapoodale.com
This really surprised Ma. Click photo to read card.
We had storms all day so ma didn't get to spend her day playing (messing with her plants) in the yard like she usually does. The morning started out with Molly Mew, my kitten, waking ma up with sandpaper kisses at 6 AM.
When ma got up to let us out for our morning potty, she discovered that Jenny Sue (sissy spaniel) gave her a present of piles of diarrhea from the kitchen to the carpeted living room. Jenny had a green chew last night and apparently it didn't agree with her. It looked like leprechauns pooped in the house!
carmapoodale.com
Sorry about the present ma!
Scooby Doo decided he would get a new cologne for ma. When he came in he was strutting around like he was on a stage or something. His secret wasn't discovered until he jumped in dad's lap and dad started gagging. Apparently, he found something that smelled really good to him but the pawents didn't appreciate it. Dad gave him a bath to make him smell better.
Since he was clean and the sun was shining , Ma took Scooby and me to PetSmart for our weekly food shopping. While we was there the rain started again. Boy did it rain! It was thundering and raining so hard it looked like someone had hung white curtains on the windows. You couldn't see the cars in the parking lot! Scooby Doo is scared of storms. He started shaking and panting. I don't know if it was because there weren't many people in the store or if the storm was that bad but it was so loud. Scooby was freaking out. He was beginning to scream from terror. Ma went to the front of the store and grabbed a Thundershirt off the stuffed animal display and put it on Scooby to see if it would calm him down.

carmapoodale.com

It didn't help at all. Ma picked him up and just held him, telling him everything was okay the whole time. The storm passed and he calmed down so we could finish our shopping. We got our food and we went home.

carmapoodale.com

When we got home, Ma looked down while getting out of the truck and she seen a 4 leaf clover.  That really surprised her!
carmapoodale.com

After we ate supper, we laid down and took a nap. All the rain stopped and the sun came out for a little while. Our bunny family came out to eat some clover and the birds came back. Ma went outside to check on the fishies in the pond and when she turned around ,she seen one of her flowers had bloomed. She ran in to tell dad about it and he asked her which flower it was and she told him she couldn't remember the name but she sure loved the flower.

That was her Mother's day present from her yard. It made her very happy. It ended up being a pretty good day even though it started out crappy. BOL!
It even got better when I got a email saying that I was the Dogster Dog of the day! Are you on Dogster? Would love to be pals on there.
So that is how our Monday went. How was yours?
Did you do anything special with your mom??

World Turtle Day!!

*This article is late due to the fact that clicked save instead of publish this morning*

Today is World Turtle Day!
This day was designated to bring awareness to tortoises and turtles by the American Tortoise Rescue in 2000. The American Tortoise Rescue is a 501(c)3 organization located in Malibu, Ca.

carmapoodale.com

We don't have turtles. Sissy Sarah has always wanted one but considering her aquarium fish have always ended up in the big aquarium and her gerbil ended up in the room with the guinea pig, ma didn't want to take care of a turtle. Turtles like to eat fish and ma really loves her fish. No turtles for sissy!

So what did ma do to make sissy happy? She bought turtle statues! We have 3 turtle statues, they don't need a lot of care, they won't eat the fish and ma doesn't have to clean turtle tanks. Its a win win!

We love turtles but we know they take a lot of care and we know never to take them from the wild. Turtles that you find out in nature can carry diseases that don't hurt them but can make humans sick like Salmonella.

carmapoodale.com

Turtles also have been around since the dinosaurs. They have evolved through time. When mating season comes around, turtles return to their roots. Whenever you remove a turtle from its natural habitat it can stress them out and some will die from that stress. Some turtles can get eye diseases that cause them to go blind. Some turtles can spread diseases to other turtles and that itself can kill out a whole species of turtle.

carmapoodale.com

Turtles in ponds or rivers help to keep down water weeds and bugs. When you remove that turtle you are removing natures' pest repellant. You also remove all the turtles that can come from that turtle. Turtles will attempt to find their way back to their natural habitat.

Turtles also eat the dead fish or the weaker fish. This helps to keep the fish healthy. Many turtles taken from the wild will never be able to adjust and they will die.

Before you buy a turtle at a pet store , check to see the care that is needed for a turtle and remember turtles can live anywhere between 10 yrs - 200 yrs old. It depends on the species of turtle.
Research on books or the internet on turtle care, make sure you have the right environment and you have the time that it takes for a well balanced turtle.
Check you local shelters because sometimes turtles get surrendered or find a turtle rescue near you.

If you or your child wants a turtle but you are not able to take care of it do like we do and get a turtle statue! There are some really cute turtle statues out there and they won't bite your finger.

Find more information about turtles at the following websites.
