Dear People of Every City

Dear People of Every City in America,
We have waited through the long cold winter longing for the warm weather. We were excited to see our summer get here so we no longer had to stay cooped up in the house, we could spend our afternoons and nights outside. We could spend time in the outside enjoying the smells of the honeysuckle, listening to the sounds of the waterfall of the pond, and hearing the crickets serenade us. We could spend quality family time together. We could swim in our pool and the pawents could relax on their floats. We made it less than a month of warm weather and you ruined it.
You ruined it by deciding to shoot off those big booms also known as fireworks. It started weeks ago. It started the first of June. The fireworks are for July not June. I don't mind fireworks. I am not afraid of the noise, but my brother Scooby is and so are many more. You put a fear in animals that you wouldn't want in your child but you don't care. You enjoy your big booms and your pretty lights. You remember all the oohs and aahs. But remember you are frightening animals whose parents try their best to wear out during the day, possibly give doses of Benadryl or a prescription prescribed by their vets. You scare the animals who may be waiting for their pawents to come home from work and they hear the sounds through the walls, you scare the ones who are outside. You ruin our summer nights.
Instead of spending a relaxing evening outside, we spend it in the house with the tv or radio on loud so Scooby doesn't hear the booms, we spend it with him in Ma's lap shaking. You have put a fear in him and others to where they are afraid to go outside at all. They shake and tremble just at the thought of having to go out and potty.
How would you like your child to be that afraid of something? Would you like to see them sit and shake? Would you like to hear them cry? No you wouldn't. That is what you do to the animals. Can you not give us some of our summer? Can we not enjoy our evenings in peace? Is that too much to ask?
I don't think so. Please save your fireworks till July 4th. We know we won't have the month of July to enjoy summer because you will be continuing to use up what you have left over from your celebration.
Please let us have a few summer nights to make memories with our families without the fear of the sounds.
  Signed,
the Pets of America.

#Minties and #Health and Joint Product Reviews .

Recently, VetIQ contacted me and asked if I would like to do a review of their products. I was allowed to choose the products that I wanted to review. I had recently went to Sam's Club with Ma and they had a free sample vending machine that happened to be giving out Minties that day. Its the machine that you scan your membership card and you get a free sample. We brought the sample home and ma offered it to me but I declined. The treat was laying in the floor and a few minutes later Jenny Sue emerged from her cubby under our window seat and started sniffing the floor. Jenny Sue is my 11 yr old, blind sissy spaniel. She honed in to that Minties treat and gobbled it up. That is all it took for me to answer the email and say YES.

My packaged arrived and we were excited to open the box. Since ma knew what it was she made us wait and wait and wait. Even the constant reminders we were giving her to remember we had a package didn't sway her. We always have our night time snacks at 7 pm.  We lined up for our treats and ma opened the package. It was Minties! She offered it to us but I declined and wanted to take curtain number 2. Ma says I am the pickiest eater she has ever had. Actually, we are ALL very picky eaters. Dad says we are spoiled but Ma says we are finicky. Scooby doesn't like hard treats. He will bypass snack time if that is all ma offers. Ma offered the Minties to Jenny Sue. She grabbed that treat and proceeded to eat it. When Jenny Sue is enjoying a treat she smacks her lips. There was some lip smacking happening , let me tell you! The grunts, the lip smacks, even wagging her tail-less butt the whole time. Jenny Sue loved Minties but we wondered if it was her choice of treats or if it was just because she thought that was her only choice and Jenny Sue isn't going to skip snack time.

The next night snack time rolled around and Ma distributed our treats but we decided to do a test. I like to test the products that I receive to the fullest. After Scooby and I had our snacks, Ma laid 3 different chews on the floor and told Jenny Sue to pick her snack. She laid down 2 other name brand treats down with the Minties and then called Jenny Sue over. Jenny Sue smelled each treat and  grabbed the Minties!
CarmaPoodale.com

Minties are made in the USA and are free from corn, wheat, animal by products, soy and no artificial coloring. They will clean your dogs teeth and freshen their breath. They are hard enough to do the job but soft enough that even seniors or dogs who have trouble chewing hard treats can safely eat. They have 5 natural breath fresheners (dill, peppermint, chlorophyll from Alalfa ,fennel and parsley) in them and can help keep tartar and plaque away.
Ingredients: Rice Flour, Vegetable Glycerin, Water, Natural Chicken Flavor, Calcium Carbonate, Lecithin, Garlic, Tricalcium Phosphate, Brewers Dried Yeast, Chlorophyll (Sodium Copper Chloraphyllin) Parsley, Fennel, Dill, Peppermint, Cholecalciferol (Source of Vitamin D3), Mixed Tocopherols (Natural Source of Vitamin E).
The package we got had 6 Minties in it. We tested the Minties for 6 days. Each night Ma would give Jenny Sue the choice of which treat she wanted to eat and ALL 6 DAYS she chose the MINTIES! I kid you not!! We were surprised since normally we don't like the same snack everyday but it made Ma happy to see that Jenny Sue really does enjoy and LOVES Minties. Jenny Sue's breath is so much better. Actually it doesn't have a smell like it did. When Ma was researching the ingredients we seen that the chlorophyll actually balances the acid in the stomach and helps to deodorize the body. Since the smell in Jenny's mouth wasn't coming from her teeth , it had to be coming from the stomach. In 3 days we seen a difference in Jenny Sue's breath. It smelled like mint after she ate each treat but the odor would return the next morning. The 4th day we notice the smell was minimum even before the treat.
When we ran out of the samples, ma went and bought more. Minties are a must have in our home now. Jenny Sue is excited because she LOVES Minties and looks forward to her snack time.

The second item Ma chose to sample was the VetIQ Hip and Joint Formula. I was not happy that she chose a supplement to test on us. I mean, Really? I gave her that look like "Really? Out of all their products , YOU chose a supplement? What about more treats? What about good stuff to eat? A SUPPLEMENT?" I was disappointed. I wanted good stuff, chewy stuff, stuff that I wanted to eat. Not supplements, vitamininins or minerals. I huffed and I puffed but ma said I really should try it because who knows, I might like it. BUT ITS A SUPPLEMENT! NOT A TREAT! THEN... she told me no treats until I at least gave it a try. WHAT?!? Oh, this woman can be hard to live with at times!
She offered it to me and I refused. We went outside and played then came in for snack time. Ma had something  in her hand and yelled "Carma Catch!" She threw it in the air, I caught it and started chewing it. I didn't know what she threw but I know it was chewy, flavorful and I wanted MORE. She offered me a treat but I wanted MORE of what I just had. She gave Scooby a half of what she gave me and he liked it too. What did I just eat and why can't I have more. That was so good. Boy, was I shocked when I found out that I had just ate a SUPPLEMENT!
CarmaPoodale.com
I being the picky poodle I am could not believe that I liked the taste of this supplement. I wanted more. Ma said I could only have one a day but she did give me 2 that day just to make sure I did like them. So everyday I ate my hip and joint chew before I had my treat. Being 8 yrs old, I am known as a senior dog. I am a service dog so I have to be feeling my best to be able to take care of Ma. With these Hip and Joint chews, I can help to keep my joints feeling their best. These treats are wheat free. They are also made in the USA. What's even better is they are chicken flavored. I prefer to call it chickyum because its chicken and yummy all in one.
Active Ingredients: Glucosamine HCI (shell fish), Perna Canaliculus, Creatine Monohydrate, Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), Docosahexaeonoic Acid (DHA), Manganese, Grape Seed Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, Selenium. Inactive Ingredients: Acetic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Beet Molasses, Brewers Dried Yeast, Carmel Color, Dried Whey, Fish Oil, Glycerin, Hickory Smoke Flavor, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Lecithin, Pork Gelatin, Spray Dried Chicken Liver, Tapioca Starch.
They contain Glucosamine that helps to build cartilage, Creatine helps to build muscles and they are delicious! I look forward to having my hip and joint supplement every day. Trust me they are good. Even this picky Poodale like them.

Remember this logo- They have great stuff.
So there you have, 2 wonderful products by the company VetIQ. They have quality products that are made in the USA , from ingredients from the USA. They have a whole line of products that are affordable and can be found in many stores such as WalMart, Sam's Club and Safeway. They have a store locator on their site. You can Search for a store near you.
I know our Humane Society uses VetIQ's flea and tick treatment VetGuard Plus and we have had great results with the product.

*VetIQ sent me these products to test out. I , Carma Poodale, only talk about products that I believe in and actually like. VetIQ or no one else has asked me to give a good review. I wouldn't be blogging about it if that was the case because I am truthful about what I talk about. *

#Seresto-Flea/Tick Protection for Fido's and Felines

Aw, summer time. The weather is getting warmer , the days are getting longer and the flowers are blooming. Its like the world is waking up after a long cold winter. Warmer days means more outside time but there are things out there that can scare you. Things that make you itch , things that suck your blood and can spread nasty diseases.

WHAT?!?!?

Fleas and Ticks- Pets natural enemies.

Did you know fleas and ticks can give your pets diseases or harm your pets health? Yes, its true. I can't count how many times I have seen pets come through our Spay/Neuter Clinic at the Humane Society that have been anemic ,have HUGE tapeworms, bald spots or intense itching due to fleas. A lot of dogs come in that live near wooded areas, are covered with ticks. Ticks in their ears, belly, even between their toes!

Why should you worry about ticks? Ticks can spread Lyme's Disease. Lyme's disease can be caught by cats, dogs, and even HUMANS! They also spread Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Pretty scary knowing a little  tick can cause a diseases that can even affect humans.

So how are pet parents supposed to keep those pesky bugs away? There are many ways but the one way that we keep them away is Seresto.

I know you are probably thinking , she is being paid to say this...Right?
Here is the truth. A couple of years ago I found out about the Seresto collar. I tried it. We also experimented by using monthly topical flea treatments vs my 8 mth protection. When you have a pet parent that is forgetful as mine, you might miss not getting that flea/tick treatment on the day or the week you need it. There has been a time or two that we may or may not have got treated TWICE due to her not remembering if she gave it to us or not. That can be scary.
I used the collar, my siblings got the monthly treatments. Thank goodness ma buys the treatments one at a time because she would have treated the siblings twice in one month if the lady didn't tell Ma she had already bought it that month.

My brother, Scooby Doo, is highly allergic to fleas. One bite and he will breakout with a rash everywhere especially his belly and his need to scratch will drive any pet parent nuts. The vet says he has FBH- Flea Bite Hypersensitivity.
carmapoodale.com
Scooby, the Worrywort.
Some days I think Scooby lays around and worries if he is going to be bit by a flea or tick.

What is so great about a Seresto Collar?
  1. Kills and repels fleas and ticks up to 8 mths
  2. Water Resistant
  3. Safe for dogs and cats (use appropriate collar for each species)
  4. Odorless

I will be answering more questions in my next post. Until then, you can Visit PetParents and learn about the Seresto collars, get valuable information about pets from kittens and puppies to adult dogs and cats.

Do We Really Need All the Photos?

The other day I unfriended an acquaintance on Facebook. Reason I unfriended them was because the last 2 months they only thing they shared were photos of abused animals. It wasn't just abuse, it was maimed animals. I made a post on Facebook that I had did so and the slew of comments were that either people hide those things from their newsfeed or they unfriend the person. I had one person tell me that if I didn't have a plan to stop this type of abuse then I shouldn't be saying negative things about the photo. I should be turning a negative photo into a positive thing. Otherwise, I got dissed on my own post.

(Warning: If you don't like nasty things, stop reading NOW) Thank you for reading this far and I hope you come back to read more of my blog and see my photos of me and my family. I try to keep it upbeat here but there are times when I need to get things off my chest. This is one of those times.....

A few days ago, Ma went out to the truck to get something and when she opened the door the smell knocked her back. It smelled like something dead was in the truck. We were having lightning storms as as the bolts went across the sky and the rain poured down, she grabbed what it was she needed and ran back in the house. For 2 days we had terrible storms and Ma just forgot about the truck. Yesterday, she went to put the thing back in the truck and when she opened the door , the smell knocked her back. She got her composure and looked around the truck to see if maybe a cat or a mouse had gotten in there and died. She was prepared for what she thought was the worse. She thought..

As she was moving stuff around, she came across a bag laying in the seat and when she picked it up she gagged. She gagged and gagged. She freaked out then momentarily blacked out due to hyperventilation. She found the source of the smell. The smell isn't what caused her panic. It was what was surrounding the source of the smell. She had left a container of raw chickyum livers in the truck. With temps in the mid to high 80's and the truck sitting in full sun all day, those chickyum livers exploded and flies somehow got in the truck. You do know what flies leave? The back seat was covered in fly babies. Lots and lots of fly babies. There is one thing my ma can not handle. This is a tough woman who I have seen touch a lot of nasty stuff but there is one thing that will bring her to doing the ninja dance, scream and practically makes her throw up and that is fly babies. Even the word can cause her to gag and shiver.
She had to get those fly babies out of there and let the truck air out. I have never heard so much gagging and seen ma walking around with her arms flapping in the air, shuddering, stomping up and down, practically running in place with her arms flapping to the point I thought she was going to take off like a bird so much in my entire life. I thought we were going bye bye and jumped in the front seat of the truck but then the smell caught me and I jumped back out. I didn't even want to sit in the truck. Yes, it was that bad.

Long story short, she shampooed the inside of the truck. Inside the truck looks brand new, we just wished it smelled that way. Even the skunk smell remover didn't work ,we are probably going to replace the seat.

Back to my point..... How many of you read books with no pictures?? How many of you just read about our truck and seen it in your head without me showing you a photo or using the word of what we found?

I bet many of you did. Then why do we need to see that photos of the maimed animals? Is it to add it to the shock value? Is it so the photo will catch your attention more? Why do we need to see the photos? Some say that its so people SEE what is going on in this world others say because a photo can say a thousand words. When the internet became available to everyone it became the world of photos. I love to look at photos of sunsets, friends fur babies, places I have never been in the world of travel ,family and friends. I love taking photos and having my photo taken but I don't feel I need to see every single photo of a pet that has been maimed.

Recently, here in Ky and close to me there have been terrible maiming of dogs. One collie named Lad was found in our county on a country road with his bottom jaw shot almost off. The dog survived thanks to our county shelter contacting a group who saves severely abused pets but is now in California getting treatment. Two dogs have been found that are two counties away from me that have had their necks severed. Dogs are still alive and are getting treatment as I type. One dog's injuries were done with a chainsaw and the other I THINK it was due to a rope but I am not sure exactly. Each dog was found separately and days apart.

This makes me wonder if these could be cases of copy cats. No not actual cats doing the harm. Remember the pitbull named Patrick? The dog who was starved almost to death then thrown down the laundry shoot to lay there and die? I remember seeing photos of Patrick when it first happened. He was nothing but a walking skeleton. That dog survived and is living a great life today. His photos were everywhere! You couldn't open your news feed or get on twitter without seeing his photo. He was in the national news, in the papers, he was everywhere. Then it seems a few months later more and more dogs were found starved to the point of being walking skeletons. As the years passed more dogs were found. Some dogs died due to being found too late, some lived.

When we share things with our friends or followers, we know they are a great group of people. Animal lovers share posts about animals needing a home, shelters share in hopes of finding their animals homes or fosters, they also share in hopes that people will donate to their cause but do we know who are friends or followers share it with? Do we know who their followers share it with? A photo that has been shared over 3,000 times has been shared with a lot of people but do we know all those people have a animals best interest in heart? No, we don't. Face it, there are some sick people in this world. Some that don't care for a animals life or well being. Are there people out there that possibly see a photo and decide they want to do the same thing to one? Probably.

The other day in the news there were 2 twelve year old girls who stabbed their friend repeatedly. This was a premeditated murder plot. The 2 girls had a fascination in gore type movies. The police chef stated "  Waukesha, Wis., police chief says stabbing of girl should be 'wake-up call' to parents about the Internet" " "Two 12-year-old girls inspired by Internet horror stories are accused of luring a girl of the same age into a wooded area near Milwaukee before stabbing the victim 19 times and leaving her to crawl to her own rescue over the weekend."  The girls were "inspired" by the internet horror stories. We are talking 12 yr olds here! The point I am trying to make is if photos or stories can inspire a child to do terrible things then the gory photos of animals can do the same.

I am not against sharing photos of animals in need of help but I will not allow the photos to be on my news feed with ONLY the words "OMG" or "How could someone do this" and things to that matter. If you are going to post the photos you need to be asking if anyone has any information about who could have possibly done that or warn others to keep a eye on their pets because someone with not the best intentions is doing horrible things to animals. Ask your followers to please donate to the shelter or vets office who has the animal for their bills they are accumulating.

Sometimes just letting people know what you seen in that post is going on without showing the photo. Yes photos can be more of a impact to the brain but they can also give others ideas. Plus, we don't ALL need to see it. Those who work in vet's offices, shelters, rescues or even volunteer in these places have seen what goes on. We have seen what hasn't been shown to the public and sometimes those things are worse than anything you will see online.

Have you ever noticed that a lot of vets or rescues will post about a stray who has been hit by a car but that photo is of the animal AFTER it has been taken care of medically? You will see the photo of the pet with a cast or bandages on and not what it came in looking like. Those are the post I don't mind. I don't need to see the dog whose neck has been severed bone and muscle but I do not mind the photo afterwards of the same dog with his bandages on.

No I am not one who gets sick at the site of blood or body parts that have been maimed. I have seen it in real life. We have the photos that were taken of ma's thigh after she was bitten by a dog. Those photos were taken for documentation along with the photos during the healing process but they will NEVER be posted online for others to see. You may see a photo of the scar the dog left on her thigh but a scar is nothing to what it was when it was first done.

Know that if you are sharing the gore photos there are many who have hid you from their news feed. Now when you share other things such as animals needing a home or a rescue needing funds to save a life, you are no longer being seen.

Can photos cause others to do the same?

So do we always need to see the photos??? Do you hide those photos from your news feed or do you also share them? What are your thoughts about the gory photos?

GoDog Toys Review and Contest!

The end of May I received a package in the mail. I love to get packages! I couldn't wait to see what was in it. I finally convinced ma to open it up and there in front of me was 4 wonderful toys.
These toys are called GoDog toys
I had never had any GoDog toys before but ma read the tag that came with them and they were made by Quaker Pet Group. The toys have Chew Guard™ technology. Chew Guard is made for heavy chewers or those who can destroy a toy in seconds. It adds a durable liner inside the soft plush and is double stitched so it holds up better to the rough play. These toys are for any breed or size dog

I am not rough with my toys but Scooby Doo is. He can shred a toy in a heartbeat. For a chihuahua, he has powerful jaws.

But could these toys stand up to him???

CarmaPoodale.com

As Ma took each toy out to open and inspect it, our eyes were wide and alert. Then I seen it. The most marvelous toy in the box.
The toy I couldn't wait to get a hold on. It was big, beautiful and PURPLE!

CarmaPoodale.com

It was a big purple ball with a squeaker and two eyes that looked as if they were saying "you know you want me!" . I grabbed that ball and shot off through the house to my room. I needed to get a good look at this toy. It was big for ME! It was soft, squishy and it GRUNTS!!!
Ma made me bring it back so she could see it and as soon as I dropped it Scooby grabbed it.
carmapoodale.com
Trying to look innocent.

Ma asked him why he stole my fuzzy but he didn't have a answer. So she let him choose a toy to. She had already planned to let him choose a toy but she didn't have a chance once I seen that purple ball. Which one did he pick??

The purple dinosaur!! He was so excited to pick out a toy too. I think he had his eye on that dino from the first time he saw it. Once ma took it out of the plastic the testing began. Like I said Scooby has a tendency to be rough with his toys. He can destuff one in the blink of a eye.
Trying to capture photo of him shaking that toy is impossible

He shook it, he threw it, he rolled on it, he chewed on it and he shook it some more. He squeaked and squeaked that toy until he had no more play left in him.
Did it hold up to the Scoobinator?
YES!
Through multiple play sessions this toy has held up and so has my purple ball. I have to say we do love these toys.
But what about the other 2 toys?
There are 2 toys that are petless.
As much as we would love to have them also I have decided that I wanted to do something special for my readers.

I want to give you one of these toys.
We are petless toys! What will happen to us

I love the quality of these toys so much that I want you to have one too. These toys are durable, they are easy to clean and they are fun to look at and fun to play with.

I am giving away BOTH toys but there is a catch
I know you, my readers love shelter pets, right?

I am the spokesdog for a no kill shelter here in Owensboro Ky. I have 3 friends who have waited a long time for homes of their own. They are all seniors but have tons of energy in them and they would love to have one of these toys.

CarmaPoodale.com
Gunner, Achilles and Dozer available at the Owensboro Humane Society
Enter the contest and win a toy. You choose which toy you want. You also get to choose which one of my fur friends gets the other toy in your name.
Now don't worry. We don't want you to think that the other two won't get anything. They will also get a toy but it is a stuffless toy. These three are the Toyinators. They can destuff a regular toy before you can close the kennel door.
I am confident enough in these godog toys that they won't be able to destuff this one.
Below is a close up of the toys.

BUT WAIT! There is more!!!!
A couple days ago I received another package from Quaker Pet Group! I seen hearts when Ma opened that package. They sent me the most beautiful bowls I have ever seen. How they knew Ma was in the market to buy us new bowls, I will never know.
She couldn't find anything that screamed "Pampered Pooches."
These bowls are from Loving Pets

Courtesy of Quaker Pet Group Media Kit.

carmapoodale.com
These are the Robusto Bowls™. They are heavy duty, rugged, nearly indestructible bowls that look like ceramic. Beauty and strength combined. Hmm, sound like a poodle to me :)

carmapoodale.com

They feature solid, heavy gauge aluminum construction paired with simple designs on brightly colored ceramic-like, bacteria resistant interiors.
They are BEAUTIFUL! They also come in other sizes and colors to match your pets personality.
The company even tested them by driving over them with a 6,500 lb truck and the bowl had no damage!!
Can your bowls withstand that??
  • They have a rubber base so the bowl won't slide across the floor when we are eating or drinking. I don't know about you but this is a big plus in our eyes.
  • They are stylish yet durable. They make eating fun.
  • I feel like a princess when I eat out them. Ma says I look like one too.
  • They are just the right size.
  • They don't have that funny smell and they clean up great!
  • They come in Aqua, Ivory, Midnight (Black) , Sunburst (Orange)and my favorite -Violet.
  • Come in Extra Small, Small, Medium, and large sizes. I am sure they have a size for your pet.
You can see all the colors and sizes by visiting Loving Pets website.
I asked ma to fill it up with chickyum and all I got was a few chickyum treats. That is ok. It was chickyum and I looked good eating it.

carmapoodale.com

I highly recommend these bowls.
I also caught wind that my good friend Pepperpom is the one who told the Quaker Pet Group about me. It sure did make me feel special and I do appreciate the good word she put in for me.
Pepperpom reviews a lot of products that you would be interested in buying. She does it in deep detail.
You can visit Pepperpom at her site to see her current reviews.

That is all the products for now. Thank you Quaker Pet Group for sending me such fantastic products to try out. I know my readers will also love these products.
Now I must add that legal stuff.
*I was sent these toys and bowls free of charge for a review. Quaker Pet Group nor anyone else ask me to give a good review. I , Carma Poodale, only share things with my readers that pass my "Poodale Approval".
If these products did not pass mine or ma's approval , I would not talk about it. I have a picky owner and I am a very picky poodle.
I will never give a review for something I do not like. I value my readers. These thoughts are my own (and Ma's)
The contest for the godog toys is ran solely by me. I will be the one who will ship your prize to you. Quaker Pet Group is not responsible for the contest.
I received the toys free of charge to try, I decided to give 2 toys away. I am using Rafflecopter to keep the contest fair and easy."
