Disclaimer: I was given this Seresto Collar as a demo from the Bayer Company and I am expressing my own opinion on the product. Some information came from the Seresto website.
I am a one collar girl so I didn't know how this flea collar would feel considering most flea collars are stiff. Ma put the collar on me and I didn't mind having the second collar. It is lightweight yet durable and it came with 3 reflective clips that give it the bling look. Now are you ready for the BIG news?
This collar not only REPELS and KILLS fleas, ticks and lice but it does it for up to 8 MONTHS! Yes,up to 8 MONTHS! It's also Waterproof so you don't have to remove it when you get baths or go swimming. Its odorless, non greasy and can be used on puppies as young as 7 weeks and kittens as young as 10 weeks.

This collar has been used in the UK for yrs and has been deemed safe and effective but it was released in the US in Feb. 2013. If you register with Petparents you can save $20.00 off the collar. The collar retails for around $70 but when you add up how much you are spending for your current flea/tick treatment you will see the savings. If I were to use Frontline Plus and bought it at Walmart at $42 for a 3 pk that would be over $100 for a 8 mth coverage and we have to remember to get my monthly treatment. With the collar you put it on and forget about it for 8 mths.
The reflective tags makes it easy to see me at night. I am invisible to fleas and ticks.
I know I look goofy but this is the first time for a product review. |
I feel stylish in my collar and I know I am protective from bugs that can spread disease
The reflective tags make it look like I am wearing jewelry. Yet I don't look like I am wearing a flea collar. The collar comes in small/medium and large for dogs and a one size fits all cats. The cat collar has a quick release just like other kitty collars for their safety.

The two main ingredients are midacloprid has been used in products recommended by veterinarians for years to control flea infestations. Flumethrin works to repel and kill ticks. Already used in Europe, this effective active ingredient now comes to the US.
Flumethrin works together with imidacloprid to provide dual action against fleas and ticks. No other treatment has this combination of ingredients
I have been using this collar for a month and a half and I am proud to say I haven't had a flea or a tick bother me. You can purchase a Seresto collar on Amazon, PetSmart, 1-800 pet meds, Petco, and many other places.
If you would like more information you can read it here SERESTO
Will I buy another collar when the effectiveness of this one runs out? CERTAINLY!
I'm not a fan of flea collars but this looks pretty interesting as it's made by Bayer with some of the same ingredients as other topical flea products. I was always told that flea collars only protect a few inches above and below the collar. I'd love to try one of these things some time though!
ReplyDeleteWe have never been a fan of them either. We thought the same as you did but during the meeting about the collar we seen how it worked. With a flea treatment, you apply it between the shoulder blades and it delivers the ingredients throughout the body. This collar is designed to do the same thing. It releases a continual small amount of the active ingredients so the medicine doesn't over load the system at one time like topical products.
DeleteOne thing I have noticed about the collar is it doesn't leave my fur with a dingy spot like the topical treatment does. Having a white coat it's noticeable that between my shoulders has a less white area but with this collar my neck is as white as the rest of me. I believe this collar is my new flea/tick preventer!
I work for a veterinary clinic and we are happy to be carrying the Seresto collars. I use one on my cat and we have had nothing but a wonderful response from our clients. The flea collars that are sold in Walmart by Harts and the likes are complete junk. They have a poisonous powder on them and I wash my hands vigorously whenever I come into contact with one. I'm glad to hear that people are having great success with seresto.
DeleteCarma, Gizmo and I were at the luncheon where Bayer introduced the Seresto at Global Pet Expo and received one to test out. Since Florida is the flea & tick capital of the universe we're eager to see how well it does
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the results I am getting. I don't mind wearing the collar and I don't have any fleas or ticks. Can't wait to read your review!
DeleteLet me know how these things work, if you would, please. In New England, it's Lyme disease country and I am an absolute fanatic about not having ticks on Lou, or, worse, in the house. A collar that is effective & stays on Lou for 8 mos out of the year would work out great for us!
ReplyDeleteI like this collar. Me and my brother (Scooby Doo) wrestle around and play all day and not once has this collar came off. It is designed to stay on. I bet this would be a great collar to protect from ticks. I will blog more about it in a couple months when the fleas are the worse here.
Deletealso live in CT, put the collar on my Poodles in May, its now September and they have fleas... disappointed
DeleteI got two dog collars in July, it is now September and still have fleas in the house. What irritates me more is the vet told me it is not fleas, but I have caught 3 since I took the one dog in.
DeleteWhat about children. My kids are all over my dog. Is it safe for them to be around the collar?
ReplyDeleteIf you use topical drops it has the same effects. If your child does handle the collar, they should wash their hands just like when they handle a dog that has been treated with Advantix or Frontline.
DeleteProduct insert says that if the dog wearing the collar is bathed or swims more than once a month with the collar on, then it will only last 5 months instead of 8, despite the fact that its "waterproof". Just an FYI.
ReplyDeleteYes it can be 5 mths that is why I stated UP TO 8 mths. I am not a avid swimmer and I have the collar removed before a bath. It is put back on when I am dry. I would average at least 7 mths for the actually use.
DeleteSince you have a product insert then you should try the collar and do your own review on the collar .
I am a lab mastif cross. I am an avis swimmer , and I live near a river. I am in the water a few times a day. I live where threre are lots of ticks. Would I have to take my collor off the day time and put it on t night when I dry off? Would it still work 5 to 8 months
DeleteNo you would not have to take the collar off if you are in the water that much. The collar would most likely work continuously for 5-6 months. I can't guarantee those results but I know a few water loving labs that use the collar and have told me those were their results.
DeleteHi, this product does sound like the answer to all our flea/tick problems..but, being the nurse I am, I wonder about long term effects on my babies...would like to learn more...
ReplyDeleteMy pup has Lymphocydic Thyroidits, and I am afraid to use anything on him, will this cause any problems, its sounds less toxic than Frontline Plus.
ReplyDeleteI've tried frontline and other topical medications on my 2 babies and they caused terrible skin irritation. Will this do the same thing? I am currently using oral medication for them.
ReplyDeleteI can not say that it will but there is a chance that it could have the same reaction. If the oral medications are working I would stay with it. Thank you for stopping by and reading my review!
DeleteI've tried everything out there for flea control but this. Just wondering if I'll be wasting more money as in the past.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking into this for my outside dog and cat. The cat comes in at night and she's started spreading bugs to us AND the inside dog.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how big the large collar is? My outside dog is a St. Bernard and we have a very hard time finding collars big enough to fit her.
I have read you are not supposed to put any kind of flea collar on cats...there is a very good chance they are toxic to them
ReplyDeleteI have read you are never to put a flea collar on a cat as there is a good chance it will be toxic
ReplyDeleteCan you take it on and off for when she comes inside? My dog is a big cuddler so I wouldn't want it around the kids at night
ReplyDeleteWe have 2 Tibetian Spaniels and tried this collar on both of them. One is wearing the small collar and the other is wearing the large collar and have had great success so far. They have had them on for about 3 months now. Love not having to put the stuff on them and it doesn't bother their fur.
ReplyDeleteI gave the brochure to another lady I saw and told her the luck I have had with these collars. And I saw them at Petsmart for 54 and some change. Haven't tried the cat one yet that maybe next. Now I paid for my two so I kept the receipt for I was spepticle on whether they would really work. Can't say I have an complaints. I will diffently buy them again when the time come around. And I bath my babies acouple times a month.
I am happy you are getting great results with it. I loved not having to worry about using the topical stuff and the collar with its reflectors makes it look like bling in photos and in the sun. I used the collar for 7 1/2 months and never had a pest one .
DeleteFlea controlling it really very difficult and time consuming. Good pesticide and its best use is must for controlling those pests. Our loving pests suffer a lot by the attack of those insects. Thanks @Allen for you nice review.
ReplyDeleteflea treatment
I too am wondering if you feel the same way about the product as you did last year when first using it
ReplyDeleteWe are confident enough in this collar that Ma bought us all one for this year. Seresto collar is still something I highly recommend!
DeleteMy dogs are agility dogs and are not permitted to wear collars in the ring. Are there collars easily removable for a day of competition?
ReplyDeleteTravis, a Red Fox Lab likes to play rough with his dog park friends.
ReplyDeleteIs this collar safe if one of his pals grabs hold of it with his mouth?
I am on my third 'round' of Seresto collars for both my pups and they work great! Never one tick!
ReplyDeleteMy pom wears the collar and it is much better compared to Frontline and Advantage. On Frontline it attracted fleas, Advantage helped but she still got four ticks a month. This collar kills her ticks almost immediately and she hadn't had fleas in over a year.
