Rex rabbit named Sherman -carmapoodale.com
Sherman the rabbit got a good home where he will want for nothing and be loved to the moon and back.

Ma got a text message on Sunday morning asking if she could take another rabbit. This rabbit had been neglected and really needed some care. The person said there was no way she could walk away without this rabbit because the neglect was THAT bad.
Ma told her to bring it to us. She wouldn't be able to sleep at night if she knew she said no to a animal that was being neglected.

Long eared #rabbit with extra long nails-Carmapoodale.com
The fur covers much of those nails.
I think she said his name was Peanut, really can't remember. We don't know much about him except he came in a cage that had no shavings on the bottom and no food. He is a sweet bunny rabbit but once Eli told ma she needed to look at his nails, I thought ma was going to cry.

His nails were longer than ma has ever seen and he is nothing but bones under all that hair. You can feel his ribs, spine and hip bones. This bunny will have to be fattened up and handled a little more before he can go anywhere. He is so scared when you pick him up but once you hold him, he calms down.

He hides his face when you try to talk to him. Ma put a cover over the back part of his cage to make him feel more secure but he only froze and was afraid to move. She took the cover off. He stays very still in his cage like he is afraid to make any noise.

We need to give him a few days to adjust. No telling what type of life he has had considering he was a pet for children. I just can not understand why people think their young children will take care of pets. I know many children will help but to rely on a child to take care of a pet solely is never a good idea.
He sure is a sweet rabbit. He doesn't mind us dogs or the cats. We really don't pay much attention to him but welcome him coming to us for a sniff. We know to be calm around rabbits and guinea pigs.
We want him to feel safe and welcomed. I am sure you will be seeing more photos of him soon. We want to make sure he is healthy. Ma has to check his teeth but she did clip his nails to half the length they were. Being first day here and a long car ride to get to us, she didn't want to stress him out.
For this one I may have to contact my friend Speedy the cheeky house rabbit. He is a rabbit that knows all about bunny health. He is the coolest rabbit I know. Check out his facebook page by clicking his name above. He is also a blogger!
I hope your Monday is a good one. Stay tuned for more updates on our new foster rabbit.
Now for the big question.......
What should we call him?
New life, new name.
He is the bunny protection program....

  6. OMB what a sweet looking bunny.I am so thankful that you took this poor baby in.To help fatten this cutie up I would get some Alfalfa Hay as well as normal hay,as it is higher in calories or Sherwoods pellet food as that has Alfalfa in it.I know with adult bunnys we wouldn't normally give them this but in cases like this it is different.don't be worried about the calcium levels because as his has obviously not been feed properly his bone density will be affected so this will help with this just make sure he gets plenty of water to help flush out the excess calcium from his bladder.Use lots of treats to get him to socialise with you and try to give him cuddles and handle him every day giving him a little treat afterward like a piece of banana, they love banana and rabbits are very much food orientated and will do almost anything for banana,I'm here if you need anything else,
    xx Rachel and Speedy

    3. Thank you for the information Speedy!! He came with a tiny bag of alfalfa and we have been mixing a little amount with timothy hay to get him used to it. The calcium is what we were worried about. After losing our guinea pigs to stones , we are scared. We never fed our guinea pigs alfalfa and all healthy foods that are known not to cause stones except for a few treats.
The new rabbit has falling in love with leafy green lettuce. He also has tried mint and seems to enjoyed it.

We still have to look at his teeth. Trying to take things slowly with a lot of petting to make him feel safe. Going to try to clip his nails a little more today. It has been a couple of days since the first clip.

Thank you for sharing the information with us. I am sure ma may reach out to you some more. She pretty confident in her ability to care for rabbits since she has had them and raised wild orphaned babies but being skin and bones like this boy is, takes a little more information.
