Being a Big Little Brother Isn't Easy

Thought I would share a few current photos. The photo on the left was taken a few days after Colby came home with me. He was a little bigger than Scooby but only by a few inches.

The photo on the right was taken yesterday. I think Colby may have grown a little, don't you?

After Carma Poodale's death, a company reached out to me and asked if I would like a statue of her. I agreed. When I unwrapped that box and saw the contents inside, I was left breathless.

Tomorrow I will tell more about the company and share better photos.

Have a wonderful Wednesday

Carma Poodale is Home,Sorta

As you know on Friday, June 2nd, Carma passed away. This has been one of the most difficult times of my life. Our family is trying to pick up the pieces and if it wasn't for all the support that friends, followers, and even people we didn't even know giving us words of courage, I don't know if we could get through this.

Ma had a doctor appointment on Friday and I wanted to go with her. I knew she was extremely tired and wasn't feeling well. When we got there, it seemed like it took forever to be called back. I kept hearing the nurses saying how pretty I was and how they wish they could pet me but they knew they couldn't.

Sorry I have been not blogging lately. Ma has been busy changing house from summer to winter and doing a lot of weatherizing. By time she is done at the end of the day, she has been too tired to help me blog.

We will be back soon!

Birds, Squirrels and Poodale Tales

I am really slacking on my blog but it is not my fault... Its ma's.

She has been spending all her time outside getting our yard ready for summer. By time she comes in she is so sore she can barely pick up her arms. Sure the exercise is good for her but it makes a Poodale unable to blog.

While she has been outside playing in the yard, I have been bird, squirrel and piggie watching.

Today Scooby, Cinnamon, Cookie and I all get to attend the Kentucky Wesleyan College stress free day!! This is a day to help the college students to relieve their minds from all those finals they have or will be taking.

We love to help out by spreading smiles, laughter and our fur to pet.

We are excited to be apart of this again this semester. We have all had baths, we are soft and we really do smell good.

Pet Friendly Shelters Using Recycled Parts From Tents

Hello!!! Sorry I have been away from my blog but I have had some medical treatments done that have put me a little "behind". By behind, I mean I had medical treatments done to my anal glands. The treatments have required me to be put on medical leave for a week but I am getting better and will soon be back to work.

While I have been off, ma has been tending to our pack and mostly me, by herself. By time she sits down , her eyelids get to heavy to help me blog. We have been active on our Facebook page  hopefully you are following us there.

Guinea Pigs Tunnel Of Fun

When it comes time to clean out the guinea pig cages lately, ma usually puts them outside. In the winter, she lets them run around in the backroom. We put out some snacks out and they watch ma while they nibble their foods.

It is important to allow the guinea pigs to get the exercise they need to keep them happy and healthy.  Living in a cage is no life at all. Getting out and socializing is good for guinea pigs.

We use flexible ductwork as a tunnel for the piggies. They both LOVE running in that tunnel. Today we did something different.....

#CatTeaPotty Weruva Hinoki and Green Tea Cat Litter- Review #sponsored

Weruva Cat Litter Legal Jargon
We have been buying Molly Mew the same litter since the day we got her. Though her litter helped to control odors, there are things that drives ma nuts. Ma is constantly sweeping up litter. Even with the mats and towels that she keeps around the box , Molly Mew still gets litter everywhere. Some days we think Moly is trying to dig to China. Last month the store didn't have our regular litter in stock so ma bought a different version of the litter we normally buy. That was a mistake. The more Molly dug, the more dust she threw. The more dust she threw, the more ma had to dust the furniture that is near the box and we even found a fine dust floating on top of the aquarium water.

It was time to try something different! When Blogpaws put out a call for bloggers to try out the new litter by Weruva that used hinoki and green tea, I was all over it. Crossed my paws and hoped that Molly Mew would get chosen to try the litter and I would get to write about it. Molly Mew was one of the kitties chosen to try out the new litter! When I told Molly Mew that we would be having a #CatTeaPotty she got excited.

This is our honest opinion of the WeRuVa cat litter.

11 Things NOT To Do When You See A Service Dog In A Store

Carma and I went to Sam's Club to get chicken tenders for the dehydrator and fresh veggies for the guinea pigs this weekend. The employees in the store joke around saying she is my membership card. No poodle, I have to show my card. I have been shopping at our store since the day it opened.

They also ask who is with me if she isn't. They want to be able to locate the person in the store in case I (really them) need assistance. I am that person who goes in for coffee thinking I will be in and out in a bit but end up sitting on the floor, shelf or worse lying on the floor. This is due to my blood pressure bottoming out without warning. I have instructed them not to call 911 unless I am bleeding. They follow the ADA but I have shared with them what Carma does, what to do if they see her coming to them without me, and what to do if I need assistance.

My warning system is my poodle. Carma Poodale IS a TRAINED Service Dog. Carma Poodale is a medical alert service dog to be exact. She can alert me before something happens. She has also pulled me right out the door to the car making me leave my cart full of groceries in the store.

With all that being said, I want to share what NOT to do if you see a dog in a store that is not pet friendly.

Sunshine and Warmer Weather Makes Us Happy

Yesterday our outdoor temps reached 59 degrees. The sun was shining and there were no clouds in the sky. Nothing but blue as far as the eye could see. Ma says that Scooby and I have been driving her nuts. I say we wouldn't drive her nuts if she got out of the house once in awhile.

She told us that she would take us out as soon as she got the guinea pig cages cleaned. She put the piggies houses outside to protect them from the wind.Cinnamon was first to go out since he gets to roam free. He just stood there and looked around. He was shocked that he was actually able to go outside! Ma put his jacket on him to make sure he didn't get cold.

Frost On Mint And Guinea Pigs

Usually on Sunday's , I participate in the black and white Sunday blog hop. Whis is a day when we take our photos and turn them into a black and white photo. The photo I wanted to use today didn't show the sheer beauty of what our eyes seen.

Swim Around The Molly-#Caturday Capers

The stories I could tell about Molly Mew and Scooby Doo. They are always in to something. Few times a day and a couple times at night , we get to witness the WWF (Wholly Wild Feline) smackdown.

Can't blame the cat because most of the time Scooby challenges Molly Mew and Molly Mew accepts the challenge. There are times I have to jump in to break it up for unneccasary ruffness. I am the referee.

Last nights challenge was Swim around the Molly

Scooby swims on the carpet in circles around Molly Mew. She just sits there and gives him dirty looks. She will lift one paw then slowly put it down, then she lifts the other and slowly puts it down. When he stops swimming , she smacks his ears with both paws at the same time and slams him to the ground. BOL! They are entertaining. I will give them that.

Having Fun And Exercising Too!

With the leaves falling and the temperatures getting cooler, we get to go out earlier to play. I like it because I don't get overly hot playing poodle ball (fetch) with ma. I could play for hours if her arm would hold out. We look forward to our outdoor time and playing together in the yard.

5 Things To Do If Your Dog Has An Allergic Reaction

Saturday night something happened to Scooby Doo. We don't quite know what it was but we went out at 10 pm like we always do and after we were done with our business , we went to bed. Around 11 pm he woke ma up from her sleep kicking her. It was like he couldn't get comfortable. He jumped out of bed and the next thing we knew was dad was turning on our light and telling ma to get up. Something was wrong with Scooby Doo.

Once ma's eyes got adjusted to the light, I heard her say "Oh My Gosh, what is wrong Scooby?" I looked at him and thought dad had the wrong Scooby.
chihuahua with swollen face
Scooby's entire face was beyond swollen. His eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head and his muzzle was twice its size. He was so red. Ma told dad that he needed a Benedryl immediately. Dad brought ma the medicine and ma pilled Scooby. Ma held and rocked him while they waited for the pills to take effect. She had her phone in case she needed to call the vet. Dad and Ma examined him and couldn't find any signs of a bite or anything. Ma asked dad for a ice pack thinking it would help bring Scooby some relief.

Scooby refused to lay on the ice pack but ma told him if he did she would rub his belly. She put his head on the ice pack and started rubbing his belly. When he picked his head up , she stopped rubbing. She positioned his head the ice pack and rubbed his belly. He quickly figured out what she would do for him if he would do something for her. He laid his head back on the ice pack and she rubbed his belly until he fell asleep. Ma kept checking him to make sure he was breathing okay. He wasn't having any problems breathing, he kept a steady inhale and exhale so she decided to wait to call the vet.

Scooby had some problems with itching in the springtime. First the parents thought it was a flea allergy but none of us had fleas. Ma checked us regularly. When we had spoke to the vet about the itching in the spring , he told us it could be some type of pollen. They would have to do allergy testing to see what it was. Our diet was ruled out as the problem since over the early spring into summer ma has introduced one food at a time to him. Each meat was given over 3-4 weeks at a time. No reactions. Treats weren't the problem either.

Its been very puzzling but ma is determined to get to the bottom of what is causing it. She has kept Scooby on Benedryl every 5-8 hours and continued monitoring him. He wouldn't eat or drink and ma didn't like that. She would take a 10 ml syringe and fill it with water. She would force him to drink. She also got some chicken broth and pureed pumpkin and put it in the syringe to force feed him too. He didn't like it but he didn't fight her when he seen her coming with it. He took it with no problems. Ma wanted to keep him hydrated and something on his stomach so the benedryl didn't make him sick to his stomach.

Sunday evening Scooby ate his dinner and drank from the water bowl. He still had to have his doses of Benedryl but at least he was eating and drinking on his own. The swelling had disappeared. He laid around and cried when ma would leave the room. She had to take him to her room and lay down with him. It was the only way that he would stop crying. Guess its true that when the babies are sick they all want their mama's. Mama's make things better.

chihuahua smiling
By Monday he was much much better. There was no swelling and he is on Benedryl 2 times a day. Hopefully by Tuesday he will be off of Benedryl. Ma will be calling the vet and speaking to him about what has happened. We need to get to the bottom of this because the next time it may be worse.

Here are a few tips of what to do if your pet has an allergic reaction.

1. Check breathing. If pet is having problems breathing call vet ASAP or go to emergency hospital.
2. If breathing okay, give Benedryl. 1 mg per pound. Monitor your dog to make sure condition is not worsening.
3. Check for bites or causes of reaction- Did you do get bit by an animal or a rodent? Call vet if find marks
4. Keep pet hydrated. Benedryl is a antihistamine. Pets can become dehydrated. Offer water. If dog does not drink put put a few drops of water on muzzle so dog licks it off or use a spoon or syringe to give small amounts.
5. If condition doesn't improve within a hour, CALL your vet.

Ma always keeps diphenhydramine in our house and we have it in our 1st aid kit that we travel with. Make sure that your Benedryl has only diphenhydramine in it. Some have artificial colors or other ingredients in it.

Please note ma is not a vet. These are tips that she has learned over the years and she has taken first aid for pets courses in the past. If you have any questions or concerns, please discuss them with your vet. They know you pets health history.

Has your pet ever had an allergic reaction?? What did you do??

Your Home Can Be #HappyHealthyOdorFree Thanks To Fresh Wave® Odor Removers.

* I, Carma Poodale, was asked to give an honest review of the New Fresh Wave® odor reducer products. I only share my opinions of products that I use in my own home. *

My home consists of 3 senior dogs, 2 guinea pigs, 1 cat, a aquarium, a teenager and 2 adults. There are times that are house doesn't quite smell "fresh". When it rains, it can smell like wet dog and sometimes our kitty, Molly Mew can have a big stinky. No matter how hard a person tries, sometimes a multi-pet household can wreck havoc on a nose.

You can spray a air fresheners but most of them will just cover the odor and not kill the source. I remember one time ma sprayed a deodorizer to take care of the wet dog smell and when dad came home he said the house smelled like vanilla and wet dog. Truth be known, it did.

There are many odor reducing products that are actually unsafe to use around pets, especially birds. Many pets have reactions to odor reducers. I know people try their best to keep their homes clean and smelling fresh. When you have pets, litter boxes, teenagers, and the smell of last nights dinner lingering, sometimes your home needs some extra help.

Are there any safe ways to help to keep the smells down??     YES!!!
