BarkWorld 2011 memories

Wow can you believe that last year at this time we were all packing our bags and getting ready to travel to BarkWorld? That was my first BarkWorld and I had no idea what was in store for me. I had been to learning seminars before but they were boring. Not Barkworld, it was fun, and informative.

I was awed by all the people. I didn't imagine that all those companies would be there. I didn't realize I would learn so much. I learned how to use Twitter, what QR codes were all about and so much more.

I was a little shy last year but I have been a social butterfly this year and I am looking forward to meeting friends who I have met over the year through social media, seeing others that I met last year, and learning more about social media.

BarkWorld this year I am ready! I have my camera ready, my notepad and pencils lined up and I have been shaking hands, socializing more, practicing my smiley face and I have already been taking notes on who I want to meet, what I want to ask and getting my clothes laid out.

I am getting ready for Barkworld , I can't wait!

No Pawtographs, Please

Dozer Ask For Someone To Love

I can not begin to thank everyone who has read and shared my story on my fur friend Dozer. I appreciate it from the bottom on my heart. I did get a message from someone about him and it said that as heart warming as it was and as much "of a good guy" he seem to be, they thought he would live with the Owensboro Humane Society for the rest of his life because of one thing.

BSLBreed-specific legislation (BSL) is a law that bans OR restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance, usually because they are perceived as “dangerous” breeds or types of dogs.

They felt that Dozer was the safe with us. This is true, Dozer is safe with us. We are a No Kill rescue. It is true that BSL exist but I had to remind that person that not all states have the ban. To me and ma,  there is always hope for a forever home for Dozer.

Then I got to thinking about my ma's date with Dozer and I thought to myself, pictures can tell a lot of stories and so can words but videos can show the most. I started going through my computer and I found all the videos that I could of him and some other photos and I put them together to show you.

Thank you for taking time to watch it. Please understand that all bully breeds are not bullies at all. I know Dozer is kind, loving and has a heart full of love as big as he is.

Bath Bargaining

I am one of those fur kids that don't mind a bath. Prefer not to take them but if I can do something fun like run in my field and mole dig, I won't protest a bath. Today was one of those days.

Ma said I was starting to smell "Gamey" and by that she meant that I had a slight doggie odour. I groaned at her because I really didn't want to take a bath. Then she said "if I took you to run would you be more willing to take a bath?" My ears perked up. RUN? Did I hear her say RUN? She grabbed her keys and pointed out the door. Off the couch I jumped and shot out the door and went and sat by the car. Sometimes my ma can be so SLOW.

We drove down to the end of the road and pulled off to the side. Ma asked me if I wanted to run but if I did would I be willing to get a bath. I said Yup! Here is the video of the conversation and my adventure.

As you see I had a wonderful time!

I really wasn't ready to go and I sure wished that I could go play some more but I will take what I get.

I am happy to take a bath!

Here I am all nice and clean! In the morning I will get my face shaved, nails done and a brush out

Thanks ma! Now can I have a treat?

Promises Made, Promises Kept

Today ma was going to the Humane Society to finalize a adoption. I jumped off the couch and ran to the door but ma asked me if I would mind to stay behind just this one time. I looked at her in a puzzled way and she said "Poodale, I have been promising someone to do something with for months now, it's time for me to make good on my promise". I knew exactly what she was talking about! I got up on my bench in the front window and watched her walk to the truck. I barked "TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS!!" to her. She gave me the thumbs up sign.

See, ma has been promising one of my fur friends that she would take him for a ride and get him out of the Humane Society for a few hours. He is a long timer, I guess you could say. He is 9 yrs old and getting a gray muzzle. He has been at the HS for about 5 or more yrs. Why hasn't he been adopted? Don't know. He is a great guy but I guess when you are a red nose pit bull , the odds are against you.

When ma came home I asked her how her date went. She said "it was wonderful , just not long enough"
I had lots of questions. Was he good in the truck? Where did you go? Did he like it? and on and on.

She said Poodale, when I put that leash on him, its like he knew. He pulled me right to the truck and he danced and danced until I opened the door. He jumped in the truck and got in the back seat and just looked around.

We went to Hardee's and I got a burger and got him a plain burger but when I pulled up to the window to pay and they seen him they all paid attention to him and then they upgraded his order from a plain burger to a plain ThickBurger! Then we went to the park. We walked around the trees and he sniffed and sniffed and peed and peed.
Then he paused by a tree and sat down and it looked like he was thinking about how great life would be if he had his own special someone to take walks with, ride around with, pet him and tell them they loved him.
On the way back to the Humane Society, he sat up front with me so I tied his leash to the seat belt and rolled down the window.Since I was driving slowly I let him put his head out the window. I seen the joy in his eyes.
Some fur kids take things for granted like sniffing the air with the windows rolled down but not him. He enjoyed every minute of it. I even took a few detours around neighborhoods to give him some extra time.
He loved every minute of it. He kept turning his head and looking at me like he was saying Thank you. He would then put his head back out the window to sniff the air. He liked when we stopped at stop lights too. He got to look at the cars beside us.
When I stopped at the stop sign in front of the Humane society he knew he was going back. His ears dropped, his face got sad. I told him I was so sorry but I had to take him back. I seen a wet streak go down his cheek. It just broke my heart.
When we got back to the humane society, he wouldn't get out of the truck. No matter what I did I couldn't get him out. He would jump in the back seat and hunker down. I asked him to get out but he said no. I even had a customer try to get him out but he refused to budge.
I had to call one of the workers to help me get him out of the truck. He refused to get out. The guy finally had to reach in and pick him up and set him out of the truck. I walked him back to his kennel and his head hung low. For such a great date it sure was a kicker in the end to see him so broken hearted.

Friends I am asking you to please help me find a home for my fur friend. He shouldn't have to live out his senior years in a kennel. He prefers to be a only dog but I think its only because its been so many years since he was anyone's baby. If introduced properly he would probably love to have a sibling. He doesn't care for cats but you can't hold that against him. Some cats are just mean! If you live out of town we can assist in getting him to you.

My friends' name is Dozer.

Mud is good for you,Right?

I am the Mail Champ!

Today I was the mail champ! I got the most mail out of all my family. Yep, Poodale rules in the mail department.

I was wondering who they were from and one was from Pepperpom. It was a contest I won for a Pets Rock contest and the second was from LBP. (Letsbepets.com) I thought hmm what could this be?

Last time I got something from PepperPom it was food and treats, this didn't smell like food or treats. I will be sharing those photos on Thursday.
Look how sweet my sissy spaniel looks in the prize I won for her ! I told her I had entered a contest for her since she didn't have a email address. She never thought I would win anything for her but when I found out I won I kept it secret. Ma let her smell the package and the jacket and when ma put it on her , she shook her little nubby tail so hard that all the photos were blurry. We finally got her to sit still long enough to get a non blurry photo but it wasn't EASY!

So since she was sitting still we got a face shot. Can't help it, she is so dog gone cute ! I think she is beautiful. She is blind that is why her eyes are hazy looking. But that doesn't interfere with her cuteness.

The next package was a surprise from LetsBePets.com. I didn't know what it could be and when I opened it I thought could these be what I think they are? It is! Its Doggles! I got Doggles!!!

I need to have my face shaved but I couldn't wait to show you all how great I look in them. I feel like famous movie star in them. I have a whole outfit to wear with them but I want my face shaved before wearing it. I got ma to put in my hair bows that matches my doggles.

Oh I feel so fabulous

This is my sassy look :-)
Thank you to  let's be pets!

Phone Call

Someone just called ma and said she got ma's biz card from the adoption event today and this girl asked ma if she could bring her pit bull puppy to the humane society and drop it off, ma said no that we didn't have any kennels opened right now and this girl said well I got your card today so I want you to have this puppy because I don't want it anymore. Ma said she could post a photo on the Humane society facebook page and the girl said she didn't have Facebook so she would bring the puppy to ma so ma could find it a home. Ma said no I am not at the humane society, the girl said where else will take this puppy. Ma said we have a county shelter that is a Kill shelter, stressing the KILL and the girl wanted to know where it was. Ma told her she could find the address in the phone book. Ma asked her if she has tried to find the pup a good home and the girl said no but she was tired of cleaning up pee and poop from this puppy. Ma said that puppies need to be potty trained but with proper training that would stop soon. The girl said "did you not hear me? I said I was tried of cleaning up after this puppy and I want to get rid of it." The girl asked if there was someone at this shelter that would take this pup. Ma said no its 8:30 at night, no place is opened. You will have to wait till morning. Can you wait till morning to take this pup? The girl said yes she would wait but asked if this shelter would take this puppy for sure. Ma said yes it was a KILL shelter. Girl said that's fine, I don't care what happens to it. Ma asked the girl where she got the puppy and the girl said her friend gave it to her. Ma asked her if she knew the puppy was not potty trained when she took it and the girl said yes. Then she asked if the friend would take it back and the girl said no her friend couldn't keep it. Ma then asked why in the world would she take a puppy she knew wasn't potty trained. The girl said because it was so cute.! Ma asked how long she had this pup and the girl said only 3 days.
How can people be so heartless? Ma knows the local shelter will try its very best to find a home for this puppy and they won't kill it , right away but she still stressed that it was a high kill shelter and this girl had no heart. No matter what solutions ma tried to come up with this girl wouldn't consider them. Ma asked her to send a photo to her so she could post it on Facebook in order to find it a loving home and this girl wouldn't even do that. She wanted this dog gone. It was too much trouble.
Ma didn't know whether to scream or cry over this phone call. Dad told ma that he thought this girl was trying to guilt her into taking this puppy. I can't tell you how many times people have came to the Humane Society and want relinquish a dog or cat. It is like some of them just wake up one morning and decide they want to throw their pet away. It would break your heart into a million pieces!
Isn't having a pet supposed to bring you joy, and love? Why do so many people get pets because they are cute and cuddly but don't want to take the responsibility of raising them?  We are not disposable! We have feelings too. I just don't understand how people can be so heartless. What happens when they have babies and have to clean up poop and pee all the time?
I just don't understand humans sometimes but I do understand that spaying or neutering your pets can stop  the cycle of unwanted puppies and kitties being born and filling up our shelters, or ending up in the hands of the heartless caller.

How I Became a Allen

white poodle carma poodale with pink hair
I was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. I don't remember my fur mom or none of my siblings. I just know that I was bought by a lady in Indiana and was only with her for a short time. I spent my early life in a crate and I was abused.

Then I given away at 9 mths old. I ended up in a Pit Bull rescue as the lady's little girls dog. They used to dye me all sorts of colors like pink, blue, purple about every color of the rainbow. I was their play toy I guess you could say. I know that whenever new big dogs came in I would be terrified.

Human Shaming

You all have seen the site "Dog shaming", if not you can view it here--> http://dog-shaming.com/ Its a funny site where you see pawrents taking photos of their pets and telling their dirty little secrets. Some people like it, some people hate it. I have seen some Dog Shaming photos and sayings that have had my ma and I almost in tears because we were laughing so hard. Then when you read the comments there is always a couple people that are just plain rude about their comments. If you don't like to read the funnies and see the animals , then stay off the site! Its just that simple. I see some of the same people commenting on how they think that the pet pawrent is wrong for posting such stuff. They best be glad that isn't my site because those people would be banned. Really, why keep visiting the site if you can't say anything good about it? Isn't that just a waste of your time? Shouldn't they be on another site that they enjoy? I refer to those people as "Trolls" or "Debbie Downers" .

One of the blogs I read are having a "Human Shaming" day. Its on Sept 21st. Its the fur kids turn to shame their pawrents. I think this is going to be fun. To find out more about what is all about visit http://www.kolchakpuggle.com/2012/09/human-shaming-a-tongue-in-cheek-bloghop.html

So fur friends, get your cameras ready! Its time to get even. Now I have 7 pages of notes on my pawrents and human sissy of things I can tell about them. Narrowing it down to one or two things is the hard part! But all in all its all in good fun.

Hope to see your photos and sayings. Keep it clean please! If you would like the photo on my blog then send it to me at CarmaPoodale@gmail.com, message it to me on Facebook or Twitter. I will be happy to post it for you.

Happy tail wags!

Pawsome Weekend

This Saturday we had a adoption event at the Owensboro Humane Society. We had lots of people come by and visit with our pets and see what out Humane Society looked like. All my fur friends really enjoyed meeting everyone and they were all on their best behavior. 3 of my fur friends found homes! I was so excited for them. I don't know who picked who but my fur friends were sure happy to have their own moms and dads now.
