Sending smiles to all my friends
What a great week! Yesterday, I received my confirmation for my BarkWorld trip. This is the trip that I won with the #EukanubaPawsInMotion contest. Round trip plane ride, hotel and admission pass to the conference.

This morning I seen all these "congratulations for winning" comments and I thought winning what? Then I checked my email and seen that I won the LetsBePets.com $75 Gift Certificate prize pack from the http://myfavoritepup.blogspot.com/2012/07/lets-be-pets-contest-raffle.html

What a great week I am having. It's not just because of the winnings and confirmations, its about spending time with my friends! Whether it be online, in chat rooms or in person.
The sun does shine bright on my old Kentucky home where the spaniel, chihuahua and me all play.

 Wednesday Wags to you!!

Pool Time With Zen

My sissy Sarah and my little brother Zen, sure do enjoy playing in the pool together. Zen is a great swimmer unlike me. I can't swim. I know I am supposed to be a water dog but I prefer showers to baths and if I do go in the pool with ma, I would rather her to hold me then swim by myself.

Zen is a great swimmer. I refer to him as a "water wah" Since he is a chee-wah-wah.  He is also a great Sunning Wah. He could lay in the sun all day. He usually will have a lighter coat in the summer because of his sunning but this year it's been so hot, the pawrents haven't let him lay outside for long. So what does he do? He finds a sunny spot in the house and lays there.
He is the apple of his mommy's eyes. His mommy is my sissy Sarah. He knows my ma as "Gammy". Dad and Sarah can hold lil Zen and he is happy as can be but you let ma pick him up and he vibrates like he is scared to death. Let supper time come and he becomes "gammy's dinner  date". He is always sitting beside her just waiting for a morsel of what she is eating.

Here is a short video of the wagtastic  water wah in action. He continues to swim even when taken out of the water. He sure makes me smile with his antics.
Happy Monday to you. I hope his video made you smile.
Have a tail wagging day!

I Won a Signed Copy of Josh Dean "Show Dog"

Last month I entered a contest that Danburg Management Corporation sponsored for a signed copy of "Show Dog" by Josh Dean. One of the things that they asked for was "my favorite dog youtube video".  The first dog that popped in my head was my friend ,Jasmine. I contacted CJ , Jasmines' fur mom and asked if I had permission to enter her. She said "YES". So I sent my entry of Jasmines trick resume link to Danburg Management Corp.:

Here is a link to my friend Jasmine. I nominate her for my favorite pet youtube video. She is so pawsome and I hope she wins.
You can read more about Jasmine and her fur mom C.J. here-> http://myfavoritepup.blogspot.com/
They gave me permission to share the link,
Thank you
Carma Poodale Allen

After the contest was over I got a reply and it said that I had won the contest!

Good afternoon & congratulations! Do you have an address where we can send your signed copy of Josh Dean’s Show Dog?

Thank you,

Jessica Robinson

Danburg Management Corporation

I sent them my mailing address and waited for my mail. I love to get mail. I love winning contest.
As soon as the package arrived I went to rip it open but I got a firm "NO" from ma. She didn't want me to rip the book. I thought it might be something good to eat but instead it was something to read. I wasn't complaining. Its a book that is very interesting to read. Ma reads some of it to me every night. It's like a bed time story.

It is very interesting to listen to. It talks about Jack, a purebred Australian Shepard who is in dog shows.  When I think of Aussie's I think of my friends on Facebook. I have many Aussie friends, I have a friend named Ninja who is the best frisbee player I know, McGrady, he is deaf but knows sign language and helps his former shelter, Jester, is a college dog and so many more. Since I don't know this dog, Jack I decided when ma was reading about him, I would picture one of my Aussie friends instead. It helps to bring the book to life.

So far I have discovered that a ton of work goes in to being a show dog or owning a show dog. Since I was  born in Ft. Lauderdale Fl., I have always imagined that I was born to a show dog and because I have some beige spots on my ears I was rejected from the show scene. But if it wasn't for being rejected I wouldn't be where I am today, in a loving home with a purpose.

I want to thank Jasmine and CJ for allowing me to enter their video as my favorite, Danburg Management Corp. for picking my entry for the book win, and  Jessica Robinson, Marketing coordinator for Danburg Management, for the sweet note she enclosed to me and Josh Dean for signing the copy of the book for the giveaway.

I am looking forward to having ma read  more of the book to me. It gives us special time together and since I will never be a show dog, I will cheer for and support my favorite poodle, Ch Jaset's Satisfaction "London". in all the dog shows. He is  the pawfect standard poodle in my eyes and represents my breed with such beauty and grace. Go #Team LONDON!
Happy tail wags everypawdy

Wordless Wednesdays-is it morning already?

Spay or Neuter your Pets please

A few weeks ago right before closing, our kennel manager Ashley was double checking everything to make sure that it was secure at the Owensboro Humane Society before closing. She noticed a orange and yellow tail sticking out from under the OHS van.  When she went to see what it was a sweet little girl kitty came out and went right up to her. Ashley said the kitty looked fat, almost like she was pregnant. So she called the president and told her about the kitty. We have a fox that lives across the street that comes by every night and just to be safe, Ashley put the kitty in one of our kitty rooms with some older kittens. The next day they checked out this little girl and she was for sure pregnant. So they kept her in the kitten room, fed her and kept a eye on her while hoping the owners would come and reclaim her. They haven't yet but last night my ma got a text message saying "kittens are being born! Come quick!!!"
Since there were problems with our phone service this message didn't get to us until a hour later. Ma got ready and sissy Sarah, Zen, ma and me drove to the Humane Society to help in any way we could. When we got arrived there were 4 babies. Oh they were so beautiful. Ma and us stayed there with this kitty for a while when all of a sudden ma seen the kitty's belly moving and she started panting. Ma softly talked with the mama kitty and slowly stroked her belly. All  of a sudden, out popped another kitty!!!Ma helped the mama kitty get her baby and pulled it up to her so she could do what mama animals do. About 20 minutes later the mama kitty started panting again so ma proceeded to gently stroke her belly and out popped another kitty!! Ma kept telling the mama kitty what a good job she did and how beautiful her babies were. That mama kitty started purring away. I think she liked that ma said that stuff to her and was rubbing her belly for her. Sissy Sarah ran and got some ice water and ma started dipping her fingers in it and offering it to the mama kitty. She finally started licking ma's fingers and then ma gave her the bowl and the mama kitty drank and drank and drank. After about a hour ma knew it was safe and there would be no more babies.
Mine and Zen's job was to keep the older kitties entertained and away for the mama kitty's kennel. I think we did a good job because ma never once had to worry about the older kitties getting the way. The babies started nursing and the mama kitty just laid down because her was so tired.

That is when I got to take a peek. I stood up on the side of the cage and took a quick peek. Oh wow they were so tiny! They looked like my sissy Sarah gerbil. Ma let me sniff one to make sure it was ok. I gave it a heads up and kissed its little head. The mama kitty didn't mind a bit. When ma gave it back to her she cleaned it all up and let it nurse. I left her alone after I got to see the babies because I had to go back to my job I came there to do. Keep other kittens out of the way...
Lil Zen got to see the babies but he didn't get to sniff them. He just got to take a quick peek and I don't think he was prepared for what he saw. To much for lil Zen. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

But as happy as I was to see these babies, I had to stop and think about how this could have been prevented if someone would have took the time to spay this mama kitty before she had babies. Our Humane Society has so many kitties right now and now we have 7 more. The kitties I was playing with were found in a box next to a bridge when the were just a few weeks old. Spaying your females can prevent more pets being born. Neutering your males can stop them for getting unspayed pets pregnant. Our shelters are already over filled with so many pets just waiting for homes of their own and more are being born everyday. This only adds to the problem. It is up to the humans to stop this cycle. If you have a pet and it is not altered, no matter where you live please call your local humane society, shelter, or rescue and see if they have a low cost or no cost clinic. There are some shelters that will assist you with the cost because of grants they may have. Please don't think that only a vet can do it and the cost is too much.
For all we know this is someone's kitty that ran out the door when it was opened and she did what kitties do. She reproduced. This may be a kitten that never had a home and has grown up on the streets. We don't know her past but we know her future. When those kittens are weaned she will be spayed. This will be her one and only litter. She will be vaccinated totally and we will help find her a home. Someone will love her and take proper care of her. She is so sweet and with one gentle stroke on her head she will purr you a song. I think she is really pretty too. Remember that just because your pets are inside pets that it can't happen to them. Once trip outside for a potty break and when you turn your back a boy dog or cat has jumped your fence and is mating with your female. Both girl and boy pets forget their manners when they are in heat or smell one in heat. Spaying your female pet greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer and completely eliminates the threat of uterine and ovarian cancer. Neutering your male pet prevents testicular cancer and prostate problems, and helps him avoid serious health problems like hernias and perianal tumors. These are just a few reasons to spay or neuter your pets. But the biggest reason is to stop the cycle of unwanted pets. Please visit your local shelter, rescue or humane society if you are wanting to add a pet to your family. In some cases, their life may depend on it. If you would like to know more about the Owensboro Humane Society please visit Owensboro Humane Society or find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/OwensboroHumaneSociety

Dear Lennox,

I am very sorry you lost your life due to what breed you looked like. I am sorry that so many people stood up and spoke out for you with no avail. I did not follow your life nor your trial but thousands of people did. Why did I not follow you? Because being a dog that came from a pit bull rescue and still involved with  list of  shelters and rescues, many dogs just like you lose their lives everyday because of their breed but mostly because there were not enough people to save them. This is one of the reasons I try to educate on Spay or Neuter of pets.
So many people begged to adopt you. Many people from the USA and other countries all around wrote letters, made phone calls, had petitions signed, all for your life to be spared. While they spent this time begging and pleading for you , 100's maybe 1,000's of pit bulls , American bull dogs, and other bully and bully mixes died of euthanasia in shelters . These same dogs never bit, growled or injured anyone in their lives but they still died. They deserved to live as much as you did.
There are BLS laws here in the United States. Over 650 cities have enacted breed-specific laws. Even parts of my own state, Kentucky, enforce these laws. I am relieved that my city doesn't but cities like Newport, Morehead, Maysville are just a few but larger cities like  Denver, Miami, and Springfield also do. If you look in shelters all over the United States you will see that 40% of more of the dogs are either full blooded bully breeds or have a mix of a "bully" in them. Bully breeds can include breeds like Rottweilers,Chow Chows, Huskies, German Shepard, Boxers and even Dalmations. This is very sad.
Even my own human has been bit by a pit bull before. They did not put that dog down because of the bit. Why? Because my human told the hospital staff that it was a chihuahua that bit her, even though you could clearly see the bite was larger than a chihuahua's body. She told the hospital staff that she did not have to tell them what type of dog had bit her because you could clearly see it was a dog bite and that is all they needed to know.  That dog is in a loving home, probably laying up on a couch sound asleep or playing with young children. Just because you are a bully breed it does not mean you are mean. I know this and I wish so many more humans did too.
I wish they would have been allowed you to live , Lennox. It makes me wonder how many people will step up and go to shelters and rescue those like you? The ones that begged to adopt you are probably at home mourning your lose of life but will they go out to shelters and adopt those who are on death row? Probably not. I only hope that you did not die in vain and that those who supported you will step up to help change the world's outlook on Pit bull's and bully breed look-alikes.  Rest in peace Lennox. I can only pray that heaven has to be a better place than the hell you lived in for the last two years.

Love,

Carma Poodale

Weekend Babysitter

This weekend sissy Sarah was babysitting 2 of my fur friends. The thought of new energy in the house excited me. What fun we would have. I couldn't wait to run around the back yard, having a game of chase, chasing squirrels together.
Ma and sissy Sarah brought my friends to our home mostly because it was the 4th of July, which I call "Boom Boom day". Those boom booms were LOUD. They scared us all this year. But we made it through it. The next morning we got up and did our potty duty. Then it began, my little fur friend started zooming around the yard. I thought oh cool, I will join in the fun. We ran and ran and ran some more, got drinks of water and ran some more. Now I am 6yrs old and I was going up against a 4 mth old. I did not realize that a 4 mth old would have so much energy. I finally had to lay down and just watched him zoom by.

Since it was hot, ma put a kiddie pool out so we would have extra water. My guest had other plans for it. BOL He had a blast in that pool. He was splashing, rolling, digging and finally just sitting in the pool. It was so fun watching him play. Puppy's have lots of energy.

Then we would play hide and seek. That was so fun but only problem was is he kept hiding in the same place every time. I would act like I couldn't find him each time and I swear I could hear him giggle. He would sit there all proud like "ha ha she can't find me" and when I would walk around the tree, he would jump up as high as he could and take off. He was so fun to play with.

Then at night we would box. Know I know where the name "Boxer" came from. I swear I was hit with a left hook so many times I am surprised I didn't have a black eye. I got some jabs in too. But when I would box him, he would run to ma just a whining like I was being mean to him. Ma said that was the baby in him. He had to learn how to play.

What a good time we had. I tried to teach him how to go out to potty but he would have a accident here and there. He did really good but there was times he would play so much and forget to do his business outside and as soon as he would come in he would pee pee. He was for 3 days and when he left I was sad but I took a very long nap. Puppies are fun to play with but they sure are a lot of work.

What to do if your pet is Lost or you Find a pet

Today is the day after the fireworks day  and I am sure we will hear many more fireworks tonight but yesterday was a day to celebrate America's Freedom. What a celebration it was. It makes me wonder how many animals were scared out of their wits and how many are lost today because they tried to run away from the sound.

If you find a dog and it looks lost, here are some tips:

If the dog appears friendly and comes up to YOU, then check for a ID tag

Be careful! Some dogs can become frightened and may bite

Be VERY careful if the dog appears injured or very fearful.Don't approach it and call animal control.

Check for a Rabies Tag ,call the business that is listed on the tag and they can search the number and see who the animal belongs too.

If it doesn't have a ID tag then you can take it to a shelter or vets office and have it scanned. It may have a micro chip. Hopefully it does and you can get in touch with the owner and have them come to get it.

If it doesn't , take a photo of it and post it on your local animal shelter, humane society, animal rescue site most have pages on Facebook. Also call these places and tell them you have found a dog, description is important.  These are the places that most people will call or look on their pages to see if their pet was found or maybe a neighbor or family member will recognize the animal and get in touch with the pets' family.

Above all always you caution when approaching or being approached by a dog you do not know. Keep the pet away from children and other animals.

There are times when a dog can appear lost but isn't . Do not assume that every dog running around the neighborhood is lost. They may be exploring and will go back home on their own.

If your dog becomes lost:
Call your local shelters, humane society and vets office and report it missing, also post a photo on their site and Facebook.

Drive or walk the neighborhood. Do this many different times of the day. Some dogs may seek shade in the hot afternoon but may search for food or water in the early mornings or late afternoons to early evenings.

Leave your gate open if you have a fenced in yard in case your dog comes home on their own.

Create a flyer with your pet's photo and a number that you can be reached.

Be careful of people who call and say they have your pet. Have THEM give you a description of your pet and ask where they found it before giving them you home address.

Post on local lost/found pet page or a shelters page on Facebook.

I am thankful I only have to hear those Boom Booms in the month of July and occasionally in August. I feel bad for those animals that live in countries that have wars going on and they hear those sounds constantly. I assume they get used to it but for me I prefer not too.

If you have any more suggestion, please feel free to share them.

Happy tail wags
